I think it would be nice to have some consumables that add more ambience to the game and should be relatively easy to implement. That being different flavors of Beer and other Alcoholic beverages sold in Taverns. They might also come with some stat increasing effects or heal over time effects.

Why not have some negative effects too, as the items your suggesting, none in real life have positive effects.

Imagine if Requiem had a sanity meter. It would be fun because if you didn't watch it you would hallucinate enemies, hallucinate death or even as far as your screen going black just to mess with you. I have seen it in other games and I enjoy the concept.  That would also give your flavor object idea a lot of use. It would require people to stay in towns for periods of time. Possibly going to taverns to sleep, drink, eat food and be social. It could include random player interaction items (such as instruments, snowballs to throw at people around the holidays or even other minigames to play against people. Basically giving people a reason to be in town for more than pking each other and the AH. It would add a bit more of an rpg aspect to it.
