No music

I haven't been getting BGM for over 24 hours now. I have it checked in the settings, I'm getting sound effects just fine, and there's nothing wrong with my computer's sound. I'm at a total loss for what could be the problem.

If not get it from here

And it is only the BGM? Also check if you have a folder called BGM with around 50-60 mp3 files inside it.

I have that file, and all the mp3 files in the BGM folder are there.Since you are telling the settings are fine and still no sound, see if you have this file called Mp3Dec.asi

All that happened is that it said the bgm turn off, then I did it again to turn it back on but nothing changed. What happens if you enter the command "/bgm" while in-game?

Type /bgm, /bv 20 or something. Also check the settings from Setup.exe.

What version of Windows is this, and where is RO installed?

That means (for the posters above that don't know it) that we cannot trust that moving/copying/replacing files are moved/copied/replaced in a way that RO can see (rather than the virtual store, which it cannot, since it runs as admin), nor can we trust that directory listings reflect what RO sees. None of the suggestions above account for this.
I don't think we can do anything to debug or fix this while RO is located in program files. Move it to a location outside of program files (for example, create a games folder in the root of C: drive and move the RO folder there), and then see whether music works, and check that the correct files are present in the bgm folder (now that we can actually trust the file listings). I don't know what the correct number of files is, but you can check the name of the BGM file for a map you've heard no music on on iW, and check that that file is there, to rule out missing music files (problems with missing music files have happened in the past, usually as a result of UAC madness)

Also, I don't seem to be having any missing files; for example, I have the Prontera mp3, but it won't play when I'm in the city

Try replacing the dlls and other few files with these and then try again.

For future reference, the chance of one of one or more DLL files in the client folder spontaneously becoming corrupted is extremely low, and even if it did happen, the client would present an error message or crash instead of silently losing certain functionality.
I moved RO to the root of C: drive and I'm still getting no music. At this point should I just uninstall RO and re-install it?

Have you recently made any changes to your computer's audio settings or your speakers' settings? Have you recently installed any new software on your computer (including drivers)? Does the problem occur while headphones are connected to your computer or its speakers?

However, I did recently make copies of the mp3 files so I could listen to them on my player, and it was a few days later the music stopped playing in the game. I think it was because I had made album artwork for the files because the problems seem to have started right after I did that. I've looked up how to remove album artwork from mp3 files and I removed the .jpg file, but the artwork is still imbedded and the files won't play in the game.
At this point I'm starting to think that's the problem. I hadn't brought it up before because I didn't think that would be the source. (I feel very embarrassed)

That's probably it. Embedded image support is not universal, and there are lots of posts around the internet by people having problems making mp3's with embedded images work as expected, and people having problems removing embedded images from mp3s.I haven't made any changes to my computer's audio settings, nor the speakers. No new software or drivers either.

I would recommend not embedding images in MP3s. The programs I use for playback are smart enough to look for an image in the same folder as the MP3s and use that as album image (in fact, I don't think either of them support embedded album art) - you might want to look into this strategy.
And no matter what you do - don't fiddle with your only copy of a file or files, especially with automated tools. You should assume that every piece of file processing software (for anything) will trash every file it touches, and make backups accordingly.

I should've known better than to do that; I feel like an idiot.

I guess on the bright side is now I know how embedded images in .mp3 files work.

It's fixed now; thank you so much! I apologize for being a pain in the butt.

The RO client's audio decompression library probably hasn't been updated since 2002, when the MP3 format didn't support embedded artwork. If Gravity had kept the library up-to-date, then the problem you experienced probably wouldn't have occurred. However, meddling with the client's files is definitely a recipe for disaster!
