this scam has been going on for a LONG time now, but for those of you who don't know, do not trust any "iRO GM xx" that shows up in your chat room. the scammers are just abusing line breaks to pretend to be GMs.

 

this happened about 30 minutes ago, and the scammer is still online right now (because of course they friended me before trying to scam me):

(notice they can't say "iRO GM 08:" now so they put a semi-colon lol)

 

so no matter what, DO NOT trust them, DO NOT give out your information, and DO NOT download outside programs even if they threaten to "ban" you.

I was about to post this very thing. I just had the old "Are you from the U.S.A.?" scammer pop up while sitting in Eden again.

 

Newcomers, beware of said person who asks you this question (this was just now):

 

 

Because if you answer yes (or maybe), they will come into your public chat room using the space trick like so (few days ago):

 

 

It's pretty rampant these days. Simply take screen shots and report them.

LOL, it was the first thing to pop in my head... and then I immediately thought, "Well I do have a mushroom on my head."

I had one of these scammers chase me and my friends all the way to Malangdo o_o I was so excited to chat with him because I rarely log on to get scammed, but I missed it!

This only happens to people who have flagged themselves as having a lot of money to trade.

 

I have actually only seen or spoken to a GM once ever in game, since 2001...

 

And Oda who pops up during certain events or whatnot, but he never speaks.

 

You might see them yell on the loudspeaker too at times.

 

I honestly don't see what the big problem is with this.

 

If you don't have enough mojo to figure out who a GM is, and who isn't, you should not be playing Ragnarok.

 

It's...not that easy for some people.

well this thread might help new players IF they use these forums.... new players need warned against buying zeny, falling for scams and various other illegal activities in this game... and we are talking about NEW players who just started playing in the last 2 days.... how are they supposed to know what a GM looks like if theyve never seen real one to know the difference .... and its not just game accounts they are after here anymore... they are having players download keyloggers and spyware so they can steal sensitive info from their computers including passwords, account info, email info and private information.... beyond the simple threats to a character in a game these people can use such devices to steal identities and banking info as well as using peoples email accounts and friends lists to spam other people.... essentially peoples computers are taken over remotely....

Ive had 2 afks the past 2 weeks for a looong time in eden and havent been targeted yet. IM ACTUALLY OFFENDED > wat my stuff not good enough? D:<

So, as a new player, is there anything out of the obvious that could be a scam? Such as the U.S.A. question, is that just something they ask or does that have some sort of relevance? I'm not new to scams and I feel it's actually hard to get scammed if you think about things unless there is a broken game mechanic abused to do these sort of things that normal players wouldn't be aware of, I'd like to know if any of those exist. I remember in other games there were trading glitches or chat bug that could end up getting someone scammed. >.<

 

P.S. If you reply to the broken mechanics please DON'T POST HOW TO DO THEM, only what to watch out for, I don't want to cause more scammers to show up!

blah people always thinking of ways to get over on some one.... ask them to prove that there a gm by instantly killing and reviving you or summoning out a crap load of mvps   . gm wont be playing as a playable game char also

theres also that other thing they do when they pm you to go to a website to buy cash is there anyway around it or continuosly have to fight between mobs and a mob of pm messages from bots ?
