so.... i just patched and i noticed something now..

i noticed that there is steam and RO integration now.  So... is it actually possible to launch RO WITHOUT launching steam now?   I only am asking because as soon as i launched RO, it launches steam now too...

You can.  Just go to the steam folder and open Ragnarok.exe directly

Usually-> C:\Program Files (x86)\ Steam \ SteamApps \common\Ragnarok

Thats not what they are talking about. The non steam downloaded RO now has the steam API added into the directory due to the very last patch that was put in today (note I said NON steam version). If you have Steam open you are forced to have the overlay. Which when it hooks into the RO client will occasionally break textures, the gui and cause performance issues (This is due to RO using DX7. Whenever we get the DX9 clients from kRO this wont be a issue). Its irritating.

The steam API has no reason to be added into the game itself. If you're using RO integrated with Steam in the first place it would inject the .dll into the game by itself. All adding the API .dlls to non steam RO users does is cause issues.

exactly that... I don't like the integration that much.  Also.. annoyed how everytime i launch RO now, it requires permission to launch now, get the failed to write message blah blah just so i can duel client now.

or disabling "Enable Steam Community In-Game" in options>In-Game should disable the overlay, but it will disable the overlay for your actual steam games as well.

What was the point in adding the steam api to the client itself...? Doesnt affect players who use RO via steam but screws with players who use the non steam version but also own steam and want to keep the two seperate. :I

Sadly I have no clue what they was doing there... Probably due to people who wanted to use steam with their already made accounts compare to making new ones but thats my assumption... Oh well turn off steam overlay when playing RO.

In the RO folder open steam_appid.txt and change the number to 00.

No more Steam and RO!

You forget this might be something Steam demands. I don't think it's good for Steam if there are 2 version of the game playing on the same server. They probably want all players to become Steam users.

i have found a temp fix, go to RO folder look for a file named "Patchup" and run it, will come up saying launch exe has changed and it wants to restart, hit ok and the game will boot.

i do have steam running in the backround, will test it without steam later once ive fininshed some updates and let everyone know.

^ that works with steam on or off.. i also noted that once you run that PatchUP file, you can go back to launching RO regularly (for me it's a shortcut on desktop).

thanks ranek !!

ok so, ive looked into this and found how I am going to run the game without running steam.

ive literally just created a shortcut to the patchup file in the RO system file and placed it on the desktop, this runs the game fine without steam being involved.

So until someone who has more exp with the file causing issues this is how i recommend to run the game
