i listened to alteris on live feed. "avenger should be merged with ranger as avenger isnt very avenger like using traps" The guys not got a clue. he doesnt even know how each class plays or their skillsf and he wants to fully scrap mine. Fools with power very dangerous. Hey alteris why dont u actualy learn about your products workings before u totaly destroy it?

He does have a point that many classes have no real distinction between its other class. I think from a fundamental point, some classes can be done away with and their skills plopped into another class. Then the class done away with completely redone. Probably the 2 best examples are Warlord/Berserker and Commander/Protector, even though we created roles for them they really don't need to be roles distinct to their own class.
I think if we head in with the mentality that no class is really fleshed out and needs more variation. Then there is a real need to combine classes and add more distinct classes.
Another thing I think this is attributed to is the calculations done in general. Linear based defense system and marginal effect stat system in a level based game means there will be a finite time before some classes become obsolete.

very true... look at how good of a job Mystics do at healing raids or parties, etc.

I'll agree that a lot of classes could be merged.
Pretty much every 2nd job role could be done into 2 skill trees within one job role, where you can invest as much into each tree as you want to, then gear your toon to reflect your build.
It'd create a lot more variety, but would need to be balanced (uh oh) to avoid OP builds...
