One of the main issues I find in vertical leveling systems is the need to constantly acquire new equipment, making previously master equipment worthless. This is especially harsh in Requiem as some equipment takes several hundred dollars in item mall to +30 and new equipment will cost more due to the refine system. Personally, I think its a waste if these equipment become useless and requires players to replace them. I think the players should have good incentive to keep using the gear and change the focus into collecting a wide variety of gear. It beats players in their '70s not bothering with gear because the cost to benefit is not worth it.

My idea is quite different and requires several massive changes. All gear is equal, but more suited for different situations. This means that level 1 armor is useful, but not the most specialized thing out there. This also means in higher levels it might be more beneficial to carry a variety of gear to deal with different situations and have a system that allows the player to quickly switch between different sets.

First are the changes to actual gear. My idea is that every gear give everything. At higher levels they give more of one thing and less of another. So different sets become specialized to certain tasks and the players pick and choose how they want to use the gear. For instance a level 1 gear might be across the board even in everything, where as a Fierce Storm set is heavily specialized in Fire Resistance, Physical Crit, and Physical Crit additional damage.

Second is how to make changes gears quickly. This comes in the "Load out Item". This item is pretty much a character equipment window that players can store items in. When they equip the load out, it changes out the current gear. I think it would be a good idea for a player to have one when they start the game, and gain 2 additional ones through game play. They can also purchase them from the item mall for around 1000 points.
The load out item would require some reworking to the existing system. Currently when a player equips an item it leaves their backpack. This can cause some conflicts and will need to be rethought of how to use load outs.
