So...it's finally happening. This is going to be pretty shocking for a lot of people in the world. There's still a great amount of people who still use Windows XP to this day for whatever reason. For some it's out of necessity and for others there are those who feel it's still superior to this day. True story on that last bit by the way.

im pretty sure it won't stop ppl from using XP. i know a bunch of ppl that's been using XP but do not bother with the updates. to be honest, i tend to reformat my PC every few months back in the day when XP loads too much windows update. it bogs down my PC imo. i just get net frame 2.0 i think then just turn off updates.

I was under the impression that they've been using Windows ME for ROII.

The fact they have supported it for so long was a real issue. Instead of completely replacing it in 2004, they introduced 2 new versions which probably extended its life longer than it should have been. Now you got a whole bunch of people for some reason or another will never work with even numbered iterations of Windows OS, even if they are better than the version they just replaced.

I've been using XP for years, and didn't run the updater for 2 years at one point and I still turned out fine.

This computer is like around 9 years old, so I'm thinking of upgrading and switching to Windows 7 Home Premium.

I'll probably miss XP, but the thing is: most companies and software developers are phasing out XP as the minimum requirement. Minimum requirements today these days are Windows Vista and/or Windows 7.

(I REFUSE TO GO WINDOWS 8 THOUGH. HEARD HOW HARD IT SUCKS...)

No worries, I went from Windows XP to Windows 7. Windows 7 feels as close to XP as you can get in this day and age.

Switch to 8, only subpar developers need workarounds to work on Windows 8. Windows 8 will run programs better.

Running Windows 7 here and no complaints.  I don't think I've ever even tried Vista.  My XP machine lasted me a long time but that computer is long gone.

My 7 year old desktop is a Vista and it took me a while to figure out how to make it stop annoying me with security stuff (User Account Protection) when I started using it (annoying as in it'll pop up windows a few times asking if you really want to do something like installing/removing a program or moving files around even though you've told it that it's okay). I don't know if it was just me, but it also seemed like it would always be doing something in the background so it would lag sometimes even when I only have like one or two things open. It still works somewhat (it crapped out before like a year or so ago though and wouldn't start up at all; had to save all my files before resetting it back to factory settings to fix it and put back all my files and re install all my programs again).

Currently using a Windows 8 laptop and at first I was like "UGH APPS START MENU" but it actually didn't take too long for me to get used to it (though it did take a while to figure out where the power options to turn it off were and I still run most of the programs I use from my desktop/desktop folders or taskbar shortcuts xP). It keeps "reminding" me once in a while that the Windows 8.1 update is available (to which I say "NOPE" each time).
