Hello Everyone,

So in an effort to take on Thor's Volcano for something new I went and invest in fire reduction gear.

I have the following:

ARMOR: +5 Lucius Fire Armor (no slot...too expensive for slot)

GARMENT: + 4 Niddhoggar's Shadow garment w/ Jakk card

SHIELD: Valkyrie shield (I only have the Khalizburg card from my Paladin days), I do not have the Draco card yet.

HEADGEAR: I have a Leib Olmai card...just do not know what to put it in since I want to keep using my Gozer mask. Thinking either Star-Spangled Bandana or another Vanagarand Helm (sorry if misspelled).

WEAPON: +7 Imperial Spear (w/ 2- FS5 and an Archer Skeleton card). I do have a Vadon card thinking about for another spear.

The thing is I went into Thor's Volcano, and a Salamander was hitting me repeatedly for 1450 Dmg. I thought this would do better.

I know It has to be a fire attack for all of this to work but I thought it would certainly be better than this.

I guess I was expecting it to be around 200 Dmg a hit.

Thoughts?

Tks,

Sladeero

Jaye,

Nope not complaining. Just needed a sanity check from the community.

That's it.

If you meant the regular melee attacks from salamander, those are non elemental which you need a raydric to reduce. Also, almost all aggressive mobs in thors are boss protocol, so investing in an alice card will make a huge difference.

Thor is a bad place to grind in general for renewal. The monsters hit extremely hard and don't give enough exp compared to the difficulty. An RG has no business there in particular because they will reflect the crap outa you when you Overbrand them. They give pretty nice job EXP compared to base EXP but it's not like that matters when you get to choose all-base or all-job for gramps TIs.

Salamander is boss type monster. You can reduce damage better with Alice shield.

But as kasshin said, the exp reward is not good as compared to the difficulty. If you can solo Thor, you may can solo GH instance as well, which gives you better reward and also ok exp.

Everyone,

Completely understand. I will certainly look at the Alice card more closely.

I have been knocking the "you know what" out of GH lately and was looking for something different to try out.

Maybe it's the younger me but I was looking for an adventure in going some place new.

In some ways this is just as much strategy as the old Warcraft 1 and 2 games I used to play with regard to fore-thought.

Appreciate the inputs.

Killing monsters is usually for one (or more) several purposes, the most common being using them to level up and hunting them for drops. Thor is pretty bad for both of those, which explains why the map is completely empty. The only thing hunted in there is most likely Ifrit, whose natural spawn is on level 3 and it is an MVP.

For hunting for EXP, scarabs and other places are much better. For drops, this is mostly just for MVPs and for instances.
