I've run around OD2 before and seen various homunculi of different types absolutely FLYING around the screen. i don't think it's a homunc-specific buff since i see all kinds doing it, so is it a piece of equipment or something that allows them to do that?
how are your homunculi so fast?

Homunculus continue to move at the speed of the owner at the time of the summon.
So if the owner is a genetic that uses Cart Boost before summoning, both the genetic and the homunculus move at speed potion speed. Once the buff runs out on the genetic, the genetic's movement speed will revert back to normal. However, the homunculus will keep the movement speed boost until you teleport/change map/resummon it.
If, however, you're walking at normal speed, summon your homunculus, and then use Cart Boost, the homunculus will NOT get that speed boost.
If you're not a genetic, you can use a speed potion to get the same movement bonus. Just make sure you use the speed pot before you summon your homun.
