A discussion in the iRO Community RaidCall brought up the idea of having special Bounty Boards dedicated to champion monsters. To separate these quests from the Bounty Boards, the Champion Bounty quests would be received and turned in to an NPC (1_M_SMITH). This NPC would only be found inside the Payon tavern.

From this NPC, you would be asked to hunt 20 of a particular kind of champion:
  • Solid
  • Elusive
  • Ringleader
  • Furious
  • Swift
Successfully completing one of these kill quests 10 times would get you a special costume title hat to show off your hunting prowess:
  • Armored Champion Hat (for Solid monster kills)
  • Erratic Champion Hat (for Elusive monster kills)
  • Master Champion Hat (for Ringleader monster kills)
  • Angry Champion Hat (for Furious monster kills)
  • Nimble Champion Hat (for Swift monster kills)
Each hat will have the name of the character that completed the quest appended to make them more personal and be account-bound to prevent flooding the server with them. The kill quests themselves can be repeatable on any character, but hats can only be earned once per character. (So if you want, you can get all 5 hats on one character for collectability.)

i like this idea... and i think its something that iro should be able to do...

I love this idea (anything that rewards hats is awesome xD), but I can see it being kinda difficult. Is it possible to create a single kill count that judges the specification of a monster rather than just that monster's ID? Is it even coded in like that?

 

For example, I've never seen quests like "hunt n dragon race monsters" or "hunt n boss protocol monsters".

 

Further to that, players could just hunt the absolute weakest of the champion monsters, trivialising the whole process. This allows newbies to earn the hats, but lazy high level characters could hunt the very same weaklings for the same reward.

 

I'm not trying to shot down your idea or anything (I really do like it ^_^), but I wonder if it's possible...

what are the spawn rates like for these monsters as well?  do they have timers?

 

just curious because i generally don't see too many when i'm out in the wild.

have you actually tried it?  i couldn't find anything when i put in swift or solid or anything like that, which is why i subsequently posted >_>

 

iro db has been outdated for a long time, and p server sites don't have these champion mobs...

 

know any other sites?

there are usually one or 2 per map... and as far as i can tell they have instant respawns...

Also how about a small stat bonus to show off how strong of a champion you have hunted.

100 Level 1~99 Champions = Stat +1

100 Level 100~125 Champions = Stat +1, Atk +10

100 Level 125~150 Champions = Stat +1, Atk +10, Matk +10

 

Example:

 

Tomato's Armored Champion Hat

No Stats

Tomato's Weak Armored Champion Hat

Vit +1

Tomato's Strong Armored Champion Hat

Vit +1, Atk +10

Tomato's Legendary Armored Champion Hat

Vit +1, Atk +10, Matk +10

Even if it could be made to allow players to select the monsters they want to kill, there's not really much to restrict them from picking weaker monsters without making the acceptance process more complicated. Besides, champion monsters are a little tricky to find since there's not a reliable list of them. (If there is, I'd like to see it.)

Those of us in the Community RaidCall did initially discuss having the hats give special effects, but due to the debacle that is Inubashiri's job class hats, we decided it would be best to just have them be costume hats and make the whole thing like an achievement system.

I'd like to see it as an alternative to Blank Eyes (facial expression), since you're suggesting a costume.

  • Spike's Angry Face (for Furious monster kills)

instead of exp like regular bounty boards maybe can reward some zeny? just a random idea, but for newbies can be great to get some money AND do something else than TI xD, i dunno maybe not that much but a significant amount so it can worthwhile, and i don´t thing bots can´t get too much benefit from this if implemented right, anyway most of bots only kill and walk so ask for certain champions from diferents maps would be good.

To get it implemented, kRO would have to give the okay and put final touches on the quests. This means the only ones who would benefit would be the bots.

 

I love the idea. But I have a question. Say I take my main and do this. I collect all the hats...

 

...then what? Would I just basically be doing it for fun (if allowed to do it all since I would have claimed every type of headgear on my main)? If for fun, that's fine by me.

 

But I'm thinking we could combine this quest with spikexp's idea. Kind of make costume sets for each type of hat/champion monsters. Make more use of the mid and lower slot costume headgears... But just headgears (to keep it simple) is awesome, too! :D

 

EDIT-"Elusive" monsters are supposed to have the ability to teleport. (I thought it was added flee or something) Has anyone ever seen one of them teleport?

yeah. all champion monsters cant use skills, they just use auto attack which makes them not dangerous.
alsn elusive monsters dont have any special trait since their tele and heals seem disabled.

err sorry i don´t really understand, i know Kro has the last word in most things but why exactly bots gets benefits? i mean, maybe can be quests for level 100+ asking for really toughts monster or even ask for a party and in the end gives zeny instead of exp.

I have never really run into a elusive elusive type.   Some of the higher level Solid ones have serious hp though.  MVP level hp but normal monster attacks and skills.

I love this idea.  Too many of RO's hats are frustrating item gathering quests.  I especially like the idea of having more in-game obtainable costume headgears.

no, none of them uses skill. even when u meet Celia ringleader, she will just use auto attack.
i met solid dark shadow at britoniah, it has 2,4m HP but not a threat since it doesnt cast skills.
