Actually, I would not go as far as to say ReQQ is hands down terrible. Maybe not for us "old farts" who spent years in it, played and leveled "the hard way". Maybe it is a love - hate relationship, but personally speaking I had many awesome times in ReQQ and I still cherish them.
Yes, even with all the imperfections and limitations that, granted, can become too annoying. ReQQ probably can not compete with a new, modern MMO now, simply because its very design is outdated. But this has never been the real issue. The real issue has been the neglect and terrible decisions made by devs and anyone responsible for running it.
Originally it was a nice little title, that could have been quite good given the magnitude of resources it had at its disposal, because it was never really going to be another WoW or any other major title. Unfortunately, the whole concept to turn it into a "cow-milking" strictly pay-to-win, heavily mall depended and real cash spending thing, in the end backfired. Coupled with the endless bugs, lack of even basic care, and ability to sustain the most primary functions (e.g. Happy Hours working, simple scripts running correctly, and so much more).
In the end, it looks like most of the older heavy (me included) or moderate spenders abandoned ship, it was inevitable. Instead of trying to sustain and even expand on a pool of players that would spend fairly small or modest amounts of money on a regular basis, thus creating a steady income for the company. Greed came first.
Then they had the other brilliant idea to try and turn it into yet another FailBook title, focusing more on that meh Nova server, while closing and merging the client servers one by one until Trifri was left. And.. rofl, a PK server to accommodate everyone, when there used to be TWO PvE servers vs one PK (Hammerine). One awesome decision after the other, it looks like an endless trail of fails.
Then of course, all the wrong kinds of people initially flocked to that FB server, immediately demanding "instant gratification". Meaning insta-levels, insta-riches, insta-gear and so on. This is how we started to see those never ending +200% exp, lant and, yes, froge events. Except, the "I want it all now, no, I want it all yesterday" players would never ever be satisfied with anything, obviously a real MMO where you have to work your long way to the top (especially in a "grindy" Korean game) was not going to be their thing.
So, now we are left with few of those chaps, even fewer and disillusioned of the older and newer client chaps, we still have all those "freebies and cookies" in the form of tasteless "events" (do they even work?). I know that some players are stubbornly continuing and hats off to them for their determination (I would rather not call it stupidity and / or serious addiction). I also know that many people who supported ReQQ with their time, effort and money (and some, including me I admit, with tons of it), sadly had enough of the mockery and left for greener pastures.
For me, ReQQ will always be my affectionate little bastard black sheep of the family. I love them all (the games I have played and liked), so I like that one as well, even if it is the one that turned out to be a mishap. I will still love ReQQ, in my own way. But if you ask me... are you coming back? Unlikely. There has to happen quite a revelation. And I will believe it when I see it. Besides, I feel I have been utterly betrayed for everything (it might be very little, though I know it isn't) that I put in for 4.5 years with all that has happened the last few months.
Hope dies last, I read about many things planned, so time shall tell. Or... the "zombie state" could also proceed for an unspecified amount of time, still. There, I wrote my long essay again, just to annoy you all!
