Greetings.

I was asked to create something like this, which I also think will be beneficial.

For now, to keep it quick as I have to go, just post the questions you have relation to Super Novices. If it's gear specific, please see the other thread.

Apart from that, ask away and when I can, I will, or others will answer it and post the Question + Answer in this OP for everyone to see.

Questions which are in black are yet to be answered. Those in red have been answered.

Thank you!

i am sorry if i dont know about this, but could you explain how super novice tank? is it employing high flee, high HP, damage reductions or high pdodge or maybe the combination of those. thank you

You've basically answered your question. I've never heard of tank SN until I start playing iRO few months ago lol.

Try to balance HP, SP, flee, and reducts. Flee is the easiest to stack. With Improve Dodge passive, Inc Agi, and Improve Concentration, I can reach more than +40 bonus AGI. But well, Renewal doesn't really like flee so don't rely on it. PDodge doesn't seem to be flexible since you have less gear to choose.

Basic tanking strategy is just to Agi Up, run around, gather mobs, Frost Nova, let the killers take care of em.

Keep in mind SN gears are pretty much limited. A lot more than any other expanded classes.

i wonder how high SN HP can go regarding gears update until today? please cast Tao card off the list. also how you manage to tank a single burst damage by MVP like powerupped Samurai's soul destroyer, i bet you really need very high HP to tank it.
btw can you give advice how SN level solo without TI to 150, like telling SN 'friendly' maps and monsters to 150.
thanks

SN's HP can go over 10k, not even with Tao. Tanking burst damage is kinda hard so wait for MrKisuke's response. He's the one doing MVP with a SN. But I'm betting a chunk of defence from over upgraded gears and proper reducs.

Tbh, without TI, I guess SN can level pretty much anywhere, as long as you don't rush fighting monsters that are way above your level just to get the EXP bonus.

I guess the leveling area can differ between melee hybrid and caster hybrid.

Well this sucks.

I did a lengthy response on how I tank MVPs etc. But it disappeared...

Hi Mr, I would like to point a few things about melee SN,

first, I don't know if my memory serves wrong, but No Death Record buff is +10 for all stats, not +15,

second, Advanced Angelic Protection have advantage of hard 15 DEF and 10 MDEF over the non-advanced one, but of course, Advanced one can't be stat-enchanted,

last, Advanced Angel's Reincarnation have a bonus of 500 HP instead of Novice Shoe's 5%, which can worth as much as AAR if you have natural + VIT bonus HP over 10,000, which can be achieved by being 150 (7k+) and 40+ VIT, so you might want to point how SNs should choose their shoes. Around 99~149 SNs only have 5k hp natural hp, so they'll need 90+ VIT for their HP to hit 10k before reaching 150. But since this is an endgame build, let's assume they're all 150 :P

Hi Spike,

Thanks for bringing that up. I had included job bonuses together and forgot to separate them. I made that change.

Secondly - still getting used to the Advanced set around hahaha. And yeah, you can't stat Enchant the advanced AP. Again it depends what you want, the MDEF or +3 Stats.

And about the shoes, I will be talking about which ones to choose in the 'Which shoes and which cards do you recommend?' section, soon.

Guess I'll ask this here!

Where do you go to upgrade the Angelic gear? I cannot find an npc to do it for the life of me.

Thanks

Well, still kind of confused x-x; I've seen refined Angelic, and I've seen advanced. I assume you can refine advanced too?

From what you linked I'll need to do the Eden Crystal quests (And have normal Angelic) to get the advanced, but then is Advanced itself able to be refined?

Super Novices CAN wear them. Just not the Slotted/Enchanted ones.

Only the regular Temporal Boots.

I need help deciding the best shield to put Hodremlin and High Orc...

My guess would be anything for Hodremlin (since it's pretty much all-rounder anyways) and Immune Shield for High Orc (on enemies that mainly does physical attack/skills).

What comes to my mind between the shields are mainly these two special shields

Novice Shield
Reduce all property damage by 20%, with the exception of Neutral property damage
Advanced Angelic Guard
Reduce 5% damage from Demon type monsters.
Reduce 5% damage from all element attacks except Neutral type attacks.
All Stats +2 when equipped with Improved Angel's Reincarnation
Since I use +9 Sup AAR, that makes AAG seem superior to NS... But then again, that makes everything different if both elemental reduction works on monster's element, not the monster's attack element (which means it reduces non-neutral monster's auto attack damage).

I didn't test, but it doesn't look like it.

If your looking for a mace with the same 170atk, i'd recommend a Bellum Stunner. On good day, the market sells em for 500k.

I would like to discuss a Super Novice's role in a Daily Turn In Party and the general Leveling experience of a Super Novice

This should be a very important topic as I have found Daily Turn ins to be the only feasible leveling method for a Super Novice and it upsets me because I am essentially leeching in every party I have been in.

Don't get me wrong, I try my best to support my party but I have found my impact to be very minimal due to the fact that my Hybrid build is still somewhat premature.

I would like to hear things from other Super Novice builds, I feel cast SNs have terrible early level experience but a much better end-game leveling experience while Melee builds are the opposite.
Is this the appropriate thread for such a discussion or should me make a new topic?

MrKisuke seems to be away this whole month x.x I also have things unanswered.

From my point of view, there's three - if not four - roles in a regular TI parties, AoE, Healer, Tank/Pull, Support. SN basically can do all of 'em but with much less effectiveness, but two roles that SN can match with all other regular classes are Healer and Tank/Pull.

As a Tank/Pull
Spoiler

As a Healer
Spoiler

Honestly I've never tried a full time Healer as SN. My heal's only at Lv3 and Sanc just turned 7. I bring some leafs on every run and I have my own consumables to burn.

Outside of TI, I've went to do some bounty boards and eden quest until around 110. By then my build is somehow got tankier than GXes, so I'm not sure if I can go out to solo now xD

Thank you for your reply, everything you said makes sense to me.

As for your shield question, I personally do not like Advanced Angelic Guard.

While the +2 stats is nice, Novice Shield will save you from getting killed a lot more.

I personally use both Immune Shield and Novice Shield and here is why,

A few weeks ago we had a turn in where we fought some Fire mob that liked to cast Fire Spells.

At the time I had a really low INT score so my MDEF was very low. I was dying so much more faster than I usually do.

So I got a Novice Shield, upgraded it, and slapped a Hodremlin card on it. I also bought fire resistant potions and I was taking A LOT less damage.

So when I know mobs are using elemental attacks I use novice shield, otherwise I use immune shield. If I am soloing I don't use a shield at all for ASPD.

Atm I'm using Flame Skull Advanced Guard. Saved my ass lots of times since it's basically lower the number of the mobs chasing me. Not to mention the resistances.
