Okay, seriously. How do y'all do it? I have a hard enough time getting gear to +7. I just bought 30 HD elunium boxes, took my +7 RWH to Generous Hammer, and ended up with 10 HDs left and a +3 RWH. Only saw +8 one time, I guess I should have stopped there. But then I remembered, after I stopped, that I was fresh out of safe certs.

 

Honestly, how can people get geared up, let alone upgrade stuff to +9 (never mind +12!!!) to sell? I just don't see it.

the no-breaking safe way

 

1. refine to the safe limit on normal refine npc

.              -4 elunium for armors until +4

.              -4 oridecon for lvl 4 weapons until +4

.              -5 oridecon for lvl 3 weapons until +5

 

2. use normal ori/elu with safe certs until +7

 

3. use enrich hammer with enrich ori/elu until +9

.              -start with a box of 50 enrich, then refine until you hit +9

.              -but if you start to run low on enrich ores, around 20 or so, aim it that you make it back to +7 before your ores runs out, then stop.

.              -this way you do not have to waste money on certs again, so always stop using enrich when your ores run low, and stop it when you get back to +7.

.              -if still +7, buy another box and start the process all over again.

 

4. do not use HD

.              -you have to be extremely lucky, and its harder to get it back to +7, so you are forced to use certs again.

The un-safe breaking way (my preferred method):

1. Go around and find weapons and gear that you want, unupgraded for as cheap as you can get them.
2. Hoard these items like crazy until you have around 20+ of one type of item you want to upgrade.
3. In the case of gears (not weapons) take them to any NPC upgrader, and get them all to +4.
4. Get as many as will go to +5.  From that pool of +5 get as many as you can to +6 and so on until you only have one left.  Hopefully you'll be at +7 or +8, an if you're really lucky, you'll have managed to get a +9.
5. For weapons, get a job 70 mastersmith with upgrade weapon level 10.
6. Follow the same method as described above.

Most people don't want to take this approach, but depending on what you're trying to upgrade, it's actually lot cheaper to do it this way, not to mention you have the potential to make a lot of money off of it if you're really lucky.  You also really help the market by breaking gears.  Heck, I can't count the number of gears I've broken over the past couple of months, but it's been worth it.

 

Actually, the method I mentioned above is how I managed to get 3 +7 Very Normal Hats for my Shadow Chasers.  Once Enriched Hammer came in, I managed to get all of them to +9 using 100 E. Elus.  Anyway, it's up to you.  Either method is going to be expensive since you're either buying certs, or you're buying lots of gear that acts as "insurance" of a sort.

Buying 20+ RWH is not feasible with the funds available to me. I had safe certs from past kafra boxes, which I got with KP I got when renewing my VIP. So when I made the hat +7, I already had the safe certs. They basically cost me nothing but renewing my VIP sub.

I see what your saying, but other people have been saying that Enriched seems to have had his rates reduced. Maybe it's just personal luck. Idk. I've also tried when he was in a few months ago, and that's why my hat WAS +7, because I got it to +7, tried using Enriched Hammer, got +8 like one time, and was lucky to get it back to +7. And as it stands now, Enriched isn't going to be back for a while. I'm not complaining, considering I won't be able to afford the safe certs to get this hat back to +7, but I don't own a single piece of gear that's now higher than a +5. So I basically have to upgrade just about everything up to certain levels.

 

That's why I bought HDs and tried upgrading. I wanted to try to get it to +9 so I could sell it so I could afford those damn safe certs. But as it stands now, I have roughly 25mil across all my characters. >_< When it comes to upgrading, I got the same chance of getting a +9 as someone who doesn't even play RO. Ugh!

...you make a very good point. I think I'll get a PC from now on before attempting to upgrade gears.

 

But just out of curiosity, with the cost of even Enriched, how can people afford to over-upgrade gear to make money if it costs so much aside from using KP to buy the gear and ores?

they prolly managed to get it by sheer luck

spent just 200m to buy 100 enriched ores, and +9d their thing on the 40th ore

or the illegal way, you-know-what

i've tried to upgrade before, and got +8 in the end (tried to +9 but it keeps going back to +7 ). spent 30ish ore in the process

The way to upgrade is to never ever upgrade below +9 with generous hammer.

Enriched hammer only from +7 to 9.

DrAzzy, thanks for posting that. I've seen it before, but forgot about it. I added that page to my favorites.

 

Necro, I already knew that, but I figured the rates weren't all *that* much better with Enriched. I've seen not too long ago people questioning whether or not the rates were reduced. It doesn't help that his rates aren't published like Generous's are. I also saw someone saying they used Generous because of Enriched Hammer's unusual failures lately... so I figured I'd give it a shot. But it seemed I had the same personal luck with both NPCs.

yeah i didn't realize that the rates were this bad with hd ores; i was thinking of possibly getting something to +9 using that method and this has scared me straight.

hd ores have the same rates as regular elu/ori.

only benefit hd gives, is items can't break.

but rates are just as bad.

 

enrich is really the only way to go for upgrades pass +7, all the ppl who QQ about bad rates, or ninja nerfed rates, are just unlucky.

rates feel about the same for me with enrich. sometimes i can get multiple items +9 with one box, and sometimes it takes me multiple boxes to +9 one item. it all averages out in the end.

 

but, just saying, my luck has been pretty decent in RO, very first time i used hd, was when the vanagrand helm was first released last year, i +9 it in two hd LOL

I have generally good luck upgrading. My average is 4-10 certs and around 20 enriched ore per item. This weekend I used 4 certs and 10 ore to +9 some FAW, and then I used 6 certs and 100 more ore and now I have +5 temporal dex boots...*sigh*
