Which spear is better for Overbrand?

Imperial Spear. It gives a bonus to that skill. I guess that if you're hunting brute monsters, the bonus from Hunting Spear might be greater, but I  haven't tried it myself.

^ Not true, imperial spear gives a bonus to Vanishing Point and not Overbrand.

Hunting Spear is actually slightly stronger because it's a level 4 weapon. But it's also a lot heavier, which means less pots / consumables.

And yes it's quite a bit stronger to brute monsters with high DEF.

other then the weight factor are there any reasons to use the Imperial Spear/Shield set over Hunting Spear/ValkShield?

Only if you'll use genesis ray (unlikely). It's also less hassle to switch weapons for VP and it's better for endgame out of the two weapons because of VP. So you don't need both and just using an imperial spear primarily is cheaper than upgrading and enchanting both weapons.

i thought Overbrand was stronger the VP?

Notes

 

1. HS is much cheaper (costs less than 1m while Imperial spear is 70m)

2. HP's OB does the same damage to Imperial spear's OB to non-brute (animal) race monsters.

3. HS's OB does more damage to brute race monsters.

4. +12 Imperial spear's VP does around 28% more damages then +12 HS's VP on porings.

5. They both can get enchants.

6. Fighting brute monsters, can use HS

7. Fighting other monsters, can use Imperial spear for OB + VP.

They're not equally good. As I mentioned, Hunting Spear is a level 4 weapon, which benefits more from high upgrades, so it is actually slightly better for Overbrand.

 

That being said, the very little extra damage probably won't make the difference in how many hits you need to kill a mob of monsters.

And actually talking about high upgrades, using Imperial spear against non-brute is even be better because the VP from Imperial spear will out-damage VP from HS like ... alot than little extra damage xD

Vanishing point is used for single target dps, especially against MVPs. If you intend to do MVPing with your RG in the future, you would probably want to use an imperial spear instead.

A well geared(but without god items) RG with high refine imperial spear can do over 20k damage with endows(if good enough you don't even need them) using VP, and the delay is aspd based, so with 188 aspd you are able to do 5 VPs per second for roughly 100k dps.

If you decide to get inspiration later on, damage would be even higher.
