I'm really not sure if this will help other people or not but I've been away for quite some time. I decided to come back, reinstalled RO2 after a complete update to Windows 8.1 (after Microsoft terminated service on XP, ugh). After completely updating both the RO2 client itself and the AhnLab HackShield I launched the game only to get a message: "The program will be shut down by problem occured in an anti-hacking function. Error Code = @1)". So, like any sane person, I tried various IT tweeks and tools to troubleshoot the problem--including allowing it through my firewall, making exceptions in all my malware and antivirus solutions, and even opening ports for the game just to eliminate any and all possible conflicts. The error kept showing up no matter what I tried. So, finally I broke down and contacted support. After various back-and-forth responses here was the final verdict:
"9/13/2014 9:08 PM - I am sorry to hear that you encountered a client issue while playing the game. Based from the screenshot that you included, it came to my knowledge that you are using a Windows 8 Operating System. The game is known to have compatibility issues on the latest operating system. In view of this I would like to apologize for the inconvenience that the issue might have caused. However, I may suggest that you still consider playing using a later Windows Operating System version. The developer team is aware of this issue, hopefully all of the bugs that we encounter in the game would be addressed in the future patches."
I did omit the employee's name but nothing else was changed or omitted whatsoever. Honestly, I'm somewhat dumbfounded by this response--and I did reply further but just letting all the Win8 users who are having problems out there know about this or what you make of it. In the meantime I'm uninstalling until there's a notice that RO2 is now Win8 compatible.
