Two questions:

1. Is the monster exp on classic completely changed from the original game? I tried to measure the exp by checking my total exp on the character screen and noticed I give strongly different values than all I remember. I'm aware of the 50% exp event, but that's not it. In fact some monsters give far less than 1x rates even with the event. For example a lunatic is supposed to give 6 exp on 1x rates, but here it only gives 4 exp with the event. On the other hand a thief bug should give 17 exp on 1x rates but it gives 36 exp, that's more than double as much.

Seems like it was changes for every monster individually? Was this some kind of balancing thing? Can I read up the new exp values somewhere?

2. I remember using a Survivor's Rod as Acolyte/Priest in the past but I checked the description in the game and it says mage and soul linker only. Have the equips been changed as well?

Experienced earned from monsters is dependent on the level difference between the monster and player

That is correct for Renewal but not for Classic, you get the same amount of exp regardless of level difference between the monster and player. Very odd about the exp, you should send a pm to Oda or Cam and have them check it out, maybe something got mixed up while they were changing spotlights? As far as the Survivor's Rod goes, I don't remember anything being changed, probably just a tooltip error.

Survivor Rods are equipable by acolyte class (checked it on Champ and HP)

As for monster exp, someone could've hit those mobs before you started attacking them resulting in lowering the exp you got if they did enough damage or increasing the exp with "Experience Tap" (http://irowiki.org/c...ience#Modifiers)

The best way to check the actual experience you get is to kill a mob freshly respawned

I'm sure it's not a monster being hit before or a exp tap bonus. I killed 5 of each monster I tested and it is always exactly the same amount of exp I get from it.

On further investigation, I really think that it's an exp modifier based on the level difference. Seems they applied this to classic servers as well, but not as extreme as on renewal and it's actually mostly a benefit.

I'm level 50, and all monsters between level ~19 and level ~29 seem to give 2x Exp (not just estimated, it's exactly 2x). Monsters level 30 and above seem to give 2.25x Exp upward. The higher the level the higher the rate. Lunatic which is more than 40 levels below me gives only 0.6x Exp. This was tested with 1.5x monster exp event but without VIP account.

So basically as long as you fight monsters that aren't more than 30 levels below you, the level exp modifier is 150%. It gradually seems to increase the higher the monster level is starting at 20 level below your level. If you fight monsters that are more than 30 levels below your level the exp modifier however goes below 1x.

Something like this.
