It is a good question :P, I read someone that it only worked with items after the update, i dont know if this mean created after etc.

The only thing im sure of , is you cant have the stats and the Gem at the same time, and if the item is new you should get the substats back when you remove the gem :P

You can't have both substats and gem stats active at the same time, so no.

If you remove the gem again after having placed a substat and gemming it, the substat will be back though.

so remove gem -> put substat -> gem it -> remove gem -> gem again :questionmark:

this is getting confusing :p_swt:

You can not in any case have both a gem and a substat!

What jerremy means is removing a gem after putting it in a statted item. The stat will return (but the gem will be gone as you just removed it)

but you can seperate item and gems now, with the item seperation drill right :ok:

  1. If you gem an item, an appraisal stat will no longer be lost if you remove the gem afterwords.
    • This means if you take the gem out, the appraisal stat will come back!
    • Unfortunately, this will only work on items after the update is implemented. Currently appraisal items are "overwritten" when a gem is added to an item.

that quote above has nothing to do with substats then :questionmark:

What it means is if you take an item that has substats.  You socket that item, throw a gem on it.  Its now gemed and the substats are 'hidden' and no longer in play.  This means you get the bonuses of the gems only.   If you decide you no longer want the gem in that item, you have the ability to remove the gem from it.  At this point it is an item with a socket and the 'hidden' substats become visible again and are now active again and give you their bonuses.    Hope that makes a little more sense?

Edit: Prior to this update, if you gemmed a substated item it would delete the substats permenently.  So that update means that it no longer happens like that and the substats are saved should you decide to remove the gem.

What NamirBarades said is correct. But remember this. IF you gemmed an item prior to the update, and remove that gem. The appraisal stats will not come back, seeing as how they were completely overwritten.
