With the new gem craze, a lot of people will be wondering which gems fit best with the character they're making. And while there are some gems that will obviously be better for your character, in most cases there are a lot of different gems which are all viable in your equipment. As such, I'm going to go through all classes and the possible gems you can use for them.

NOTE: This is only for honor/valor sets, I'm not going to go into the potential of reinforced/exalted sets with substats in their head/arms/boots as this will become way too long. I also have no experience with the exalted sets as I've never used any of them.

Did a few edits to scouts and raiders after some 'advice' (a lot of telling me to go away, but I'm used to that).

1) Champions:

Champions are probably the most diverse in terms of equipment usage due to there being three weapon types, all three of them being inherently different in what they're strong at.

Spoiler

2) Knights

A few different options depending on being melee or xbow, but not much of a difference in most parts.

Spoiler

3) Raiders

Big difference between katar and dual raiders, and as dual in particular wether you build more defensively or offensively.

Spoiler

4)Scouts

Generally benefit from same gems, only slight differences between crossbows and bows (mainly crossbows having the option of gemming a shield).

Spoiler

5)Bourgeois

Offensive gems rather different depending on weapon type, aside from that not much of a difference.

Spoiler

6)Artisans

This section is only for battle artisans, as crafters do not benefit from any of the new gems that are available.

Spoiler

7)Mages

Pretty straightforward options, not much to say here.

Spoiler

8) Battle cleric

Going to separate the battle cleric from the support cleric since both use drastically different gems.

Spoiler

9)Supportive cleric

When I say supportive cleric, I do mean a cleric that supports a team in CD/wars. Not a buffslave, as they only care about stacking cha and don't need the new gems.

Spoiler

Alright let me start:

Raiders:

Boots:

Mesolite (75 mspd) is the best for katars by far, as the other options aren't that good or just don't fit well with general katar raider builds. Also decent on duals.

Starquartz (30accu+5%+30dodge) is a good pickup for dual raiders if you don't value the movement speed on mesolite as much, and it's also cheap as it's in the valor shop.

This is wrong, Raiders have more than enaugh mspeed so Starquartz is the most valuable gem here.

Arms:

Malachite (4.5%+110 melee attack power) is the go to choice for katars as they pretty much only auto attack for DPS.

Not the ONLY option but for sure one of the best 2.

Peridot (20% aspd) is not bad but they already have so much passive attack speed that melee attack power scales much better with it rather than even more aspd.

Forget this gem - no need aspeed sir.

Tanzanite (2%+50 crit) is OK if you want to maximize crit chance, but I think that melee attack power will just be much more beneficial than a bit of crit. It's a cheap alternative though and works well with citrine.

This gem is actually next to Malachite the best gem - raider need crit! The correct crit/acc balance is the way to victory!

Sunstone (8%aspd+25accu) and staragate (5%ap+25accu) are always cheap alternatives but they just aren't as good as the other ones.

Only an option when you face a full dodge raider.

Starquartz (25accu+5%+30dodge) is decent on duals but I don't recommend it, the boss dropped gems are stronger.

Dodge Raiders sadly work not quite as well as they should since the dodge<->AoE accuracy formula is kinda f*ed up - can't go in details here.

Platinum (5%+200 pierce def) is your best bet for duals, as it'll boost their def piercing up to 35%+250 in total, making them very potent against low-mid level defense targets.

For duals an option for sure.

Face:

Substat.

Body:

Rosasite (4.5%+110dmg reduction) is always a good bet because the amount of dmg reduction it gives is just so high, but I think overall it's not that great on katar raiders as the dmg reduction won't do them much. It's decent on duals though who can get a good amount of defensive stats with def+dodge from evasive guard. Is very effective when paired with a hunter set (dex+def).

Classical Tanzanite 7 or maybe Diamond 7 set additionally for Crystal Defender/clanwars.

You can always run a classic gem 7 in body armor, so if you don't see the point in rosasite there's plenty of options to choose from.

Weapon:

Citrine: I think this gem is overrated compared to some other options, but on katars it is still a great gem due to them being able to get a lot of crit (and removing a lot of crit from their opponent via stacking debuff+crit down).

As with gloves there are also pretty mutch 2 ways to go: Crit or melee damage - both styles are fine.

Enargite (4.5%+110 enhance damage) is very good on duals as they don't need the additional skill power from  spectrolite, with their skill power being massive enough as it is. It is also decent on katars due to them striking incredibly fast, getting a lot of use from the flat 110 enhance damage.

Out *points at the door* - just dual raiders may think about this.

Malachite (4.5%+290 melee attack power) is together with citrine the best option for katar raiders, as their pretty much only source of damage is auto attacks.

In case of duals, you can also use a gem 7 of your choosing if none of these suit your fancy.

As I said Crit or Melee damage; the perfect raider has 3 Katars in his inventory: 1 Crit damage 1 Melee Attack Power 1 Tanzanite 7 gemmed to win crit duels vs "high critters".

Headpiece:

Sunstone (8%aspd+30accu) is probably the best pickup for katars together with staragate (5%ap+30accu).

Both Okish, depends on personal preferences.

Starquartz(5%+30dodge+30accu) is decent for duals based on survival/defenses, for more offensive builds staragate (5%ap+30accu) is your best bet.

Back item:

Gypsum (summon gauge) is OK in case you're one of those few dudes who try out different things, like summoning several beasts to fight for you (*cough* just for you Feuer *cough*).

Go Away.

Since most raiders don't use summons though, you're better off with a substat.

Next one: Scouts:

Boots:

Mesolite (75 mspd) no doubt, the other gems are rather pointless as they don't work well with scouts as a class. Rosasite (25 dmg reduction) might work when you play crossbow, but even then I value the movement speed over the little dmg reduction.

No, please, mspeed? we have in 90% of all cases the superior mspeed already - the dodge/accuracy is the only option here.

Arms:

Tanzanite (2%+50crit) is cheap and a decent alternative for the more expensive king drops, and is especially on scouts who have crit damage passives. No good on crossbows.

Ok where to start: as Raiders do scouts have 2 ways to go: 1. Crit heavy scout with crit gems and critine in the weapon 2. enhanced DAMAGE (NOT MELEE DAMAGE) focused
So Tanzanite is the way you go on your way to crit scout (this includes crit xbows).

Staragate (5%ap+30accu) is another Ok alternative but not the greatest.

Go Away.

Platinum (5%+200) is very effective since almost all scout skills in both the crossbow and bow tree deal physical damage.

Go Away.

Malachite (4.5%+110 melee attack power) is OK for aspd focused scouts, but I value the def pierce more as scouts tend to use skills often.

Go Away.

I miss the Glaring Enargite Baguette as favorite gem for AP focused scouts (one of the 2 scout paths)

Face:

Substat.

Body:

Rosasite (4.5%+110) is good for crossbows as they are naturally tanky and benefit from the flat dmg reduction a lot, but on bow scouts it's kind of pointless as they'll be squishy regardless of using this gem or not. For bows just use a gem 7. Diamond or Tanzanite 7 - but overall correct.

Weapon:

Enargite (4.5%+110) is very good for both bow and crossbow scouts who like doing sustained DPS with their autos and skills, especially bow scouts as they attack relatively fast benefit from this gem.

Attackspeed is not really ineresting for any scout since that class is very skill heavy you rarely use more than 1-2 normal hits in a row.
Must have gem.

Citrine (30% crit dmg) is overrated but a decent option on bow scouts who want to maximize their burst damage with high crit damage skills (particularly impact arrow, which is guaranteed to crit). No good on crossbows.

It is not overrated it is perfect! Scouts have already two great crit multiplier passive which synergise well with this gem. My scout for example has always at least 2 PAs and 2 Chiv gloves (and some more items but i wont start to list all now) in his inventory to swap between "enhanced damage" and "heavy critter" quickly.

For me this Gem is a must have next to the Glaring Enargite Marquise.

Spectrolite (4.5%+200 skill power) is good for both bow and crossbow scouts, as they tend to use skills quite often. I still think enargite is better, but feel free to test this gem out.

Tested and removed - bad.

Malachite (4.5%+290 melee attack power) for auto attack focused bow scouts, although I do not recommend it personally.

You are right - bad.

Headpiece:

Spectrolite (4.5%+30) is not bad, but I personally don't like it since the flat portion is so little. If you use the low skill power skills a lot as bow scout, spectrolite is OK.

Scales badly.

Staragate (5%ap+30accu) is the go-to gem for headpiece in most situations, while sunstone (8%aspd+30accu) is only for those who build attack speed based.

Agree - I also prefer the staragate.

Back item:

If you like birds, use a gypsum (60 summon gauge) one to get a lot of hawks out, but generally a substat will be a better choice.

Shield:

Rosasite (4.5%dmg reduction) or braunite (4.5% block rate) are good if you want to be more defensive, but generally I prefer a substat here.

Had no time yet to test those on xbow, sorry.

Edit about mages:

I am not sure if the pierce magic defense gem is really that bad - especially when you focus low mdef targets sutch as champions or scouts. The deminishing return point gets nearly never reatched so reduced magic defense might increase your damage expotentially, but I have to admit I didn't do any testings on mage yet - but maybe any experienced mage tested this gem set versus low mdef targets yet.

I haven't really done testing on the new gems, but from my understanding of the damage mechanics you get the most mileage with balanced offense  do to the diminishing returns of stacking stats. That is, classes with high attack speed get a lesser benefit from adding more attack speed, classes with high enhance damage get a lesser benefit from adding enhance damage. It's unfortunate that only about a third of the total new gems are listed on this, and most of them repeat for multiple classes, and thats due to the fact that there are alot of weak gems.

Yeah, I didn't list every single on this gem because well.. I'd already been writing for 4 hours and felt sleepy lol. So I only really added the gems that I thought could be a possibility, since from what I know from this game's mechanics a lot of those newer gems are quite frankly, useless.

May have to test the glaring enargite baguette (4.5% enhance damage) which I left out, since in most cases it felt like you'd gain more from the other gems due to lacking any kind of flat bonus. I may be wrong though.

This is great Jeremy but in many instances great stats are better than the new gems.  So that has to be kept in mind too.

NOTE: This is only for honor/valor sets, I'm not going to go into the potential of reinforced/exalted sets with substats in their head/arms/boots as this will become way too long. I also have no experience with the exalted sets as I've never used any of them.

I made this specifically for what to put into honor/valor sets as neither of them allow the potential of substats, and I've also mentioned that in back item/mask we'll almost always put a substat, with the exception of the summon gauge gem sometimes for battle/support clerics.

I've also suggested substats multiple times throughout the guide on shields/magic tools, as not every class benefits as much from having a gem there.

I did keep in mind all of the subs, but the only class that really might run something other than an honor set in PvP is the support cleric who sometimes run in reinforced/exalted for the potential of cha subs, so for the majority I left them out.

Nice guide.. :D I've already farmed and gathered the Gems that I think would fit for my build.

But I'd also like to know in your experience, what Valor and Honor set would fit a SKILL / CRIT TYPE SCOUT? Coz I was thinking of getting a brave armor set for the scout, since I can already reach the 50% crit cap with cleric buffs I thought that getting courage set would be pointless as it only gives "crit" which I think is pointless because of the 50% crit cap and "accu" which is not that needed in PVM? What are your thoughts in this guys?

Mobs have Crit Defense. You need more than 50% to Critically hit some Bosses, especially in Dungeons.

Example: Dark Shaman has around 1,700'ish C.Defense. at 1 : 1.5 negation rate [1 C.Def neutralizes 1.5 Critical Rating] You'd need about 3,800 Critical Rating to hither 50% of the time with a Critical. That is if you're not a Katar Raider who has Critical Defense Downs. Everyone else needs 2,550+ to start critting her, which is impossible unless you have either an Axe Champ, 100% Stat Focus on Crit Katar/Cannon Bourgeois, or Guaranteed Crit Skills like Impact arrow or Snipe.

Oh wow, this is the first time that I've heard of this mechanic in-game. Thanks a lot for the info Feuer.

Now I've decided to get full courage set on my scout and put these Gems on em
Full Courage:
Boots = Starquartz
Arms = Tanzanite
Face = Precise Keen of Haste (Rune that gives Acu/Crit/atkspd/harmful resist)
(I know it's off topic but there are no gems for the face so yeah, just needed to put it here)
Body = Garnet 7 (Dex means dmg, atk speed, and dodge so this is the best gem for scout I guess)
Weapon = Critine hands down for crit type skill scout
Head = Star Agate

As for the back item, AP/Crit I think would be the best..

Side note: DEX does not give Attack Speed. That's an old iRose mechanic that was removed with the Evolution update.

Also, there are face gems, but they're not significant. You can get some Enhance Damage, Stun/Sleep/Mute Resist for the face slot. But considering you have the PKH Rune, might as well.
