Kage/Obo isn't a very popular class on iRO. They have a very low MHP and so can't survive much abuse, they can't equip trans gear, and just generally, their status as an Expanded class puts people off. You'll have trouble being taken seriously by WoE guilds if you intend to fight on a Kagerou.
The "one skill" your friend was referring to was likely Rapid Throw. Damage that ignores redux and is capable of 1-shotting most any character that isn't in a tight group or equipped with Tao. I'm not a big fan of the skill but it makes you very dangerous, so take it if you really want it. Just remember that it's worthless unless at Lv8-10, and that's a lot of points you could be pumping into other, more versatile skills.
For PvM/WoE hybridisation you'll want to prioritise Throwing. Large, bursty AoEs are best and Swirling Petals delivers on that. Mix in KE as well. Magic, particularly the seal skills for high rate stat procs, are an absolute necessity for the support build Kage, prepping large mobs in PvM for the kill and your survivability in WoE, but consider them as more of a supplement to the throwing skills that you'll be firing off. Freezing Spear with sufficient cast time redux is able to lock people in place with a large number of hits per second, making it excellent for blocking skills with a cast time and preventing engagement. Blaze Shield is an good tool for slowing an advance due to the large AoE, as it may be cast in chokes. Flaming Petals is by far your most damaging magic skill but remember that most people in WoE default fire armour to defend against DB.
In WoE, without RT, your job will be to debuff and immobilise your opponents. SP is great for PvM but the double redux in WoE physics means it'll just tickle to most players. Don't bother killing since your guild will definitely have better classes for that in play, and don't KS unless you're 110% sure the target isn't wearing reflect gear.
Now a few things about skill selection.
- Leave Flip Tatami at 1. You only want it for the ranged damage nullification and higher levels don't do anything for that.
- CSS needs to be at max level.
- Ninja Aura is at your discretion. You don't really want it for the small stat bonuses, but instead for the flag that allows the use of Mirror Image and Killing Strike. The extended duration isn't very useful since you'll only be using KS on immobilised or helpless targets and it's easy to string your buffs prior to the KS.
- Leave Pure Soul at 3. Anything else is a waste of points since using it again within the active duration cancels it. Also remember that PS gives you a flat 50% chance to dodge magic, including AoEs like Psywave.
- Exploding Dragon is pathetic. Don't get it.
- Kunai Splash is also pathetic. Don't get it.
- Make sure you grab all the Charms and Cast Ninja Spell. Those are your go-to support skills on the back line of WoE and to defend yourself from overzealous killers. Using a water charm seal on someone without unfro is almost guaranteed to cause freeze or deep freeze.
- Illusion: Bewitch doesn't work correctly afaik. Up to your discretion.
- Empty Shadow and Shadow Trampling are AMAZING in PvP and WoE. Get them both.
- Soul Cutter is good but the prereqs are too steep for a throwing/magic hybrid. Get it if you have leftover points but otherwise don't bother.
Also, if you want to be a real troll, take a Flame Skull shield along with you. The stat procs work through CSS.
