In 2011, Pokémon Trading Card Game Online (or PTCGO) began its beta testing. It originally began as a browser-based game and eventually became a full-on client-based game.
If you want to check it out, make an account on Pokémon.com and download the client here: http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-tcg/
In addition, it's also now available for iOS: http://www.pokemon.c...-comes-to-ipad/
The game is still in beta even after 3 years so it's not quite in its launch form yet. Gameplay time and Trainer Challenge progress have been wiped with the recent client update because of the new Achievements system so that makes sense. Kind of sucks I'll have to fight through Trainer Challenge again 'cause some of those NPCs are hard to beat with the basic decks. But at least they gave all beta testers a Beta deck sleeve as thanks for not ragequitting?
All new players have to go through a mandatory tutorial and a practice round with an NPC before they can start playing against other players. You can change your avatar either through the website or the client (although there's currently some weird bug going on where your avatar will have accessories and stuff on them that you didn't want).
In the beginning, you had to buy physical booster packs with real money and input the codes into the game in order to customize your deck. But now you have the option to buy booster packs with Trainer Tokens, which can be earned through games on the Pokémon.com website or by progressing through the Trainer Challenge in PTCGO. So that's a nice change. (Compared to Yu-Gi-Oh! Online where they never gave players an option to earn booster packs for free. And as a result, that game shut down.)

Luck is required in pretty much every TCG out there, not just Pokémon. :3

The heart of my cards is Charizard and Mewtwo and I possess neither in the game.

I just got a code in my email for a free booster pack. Did anyone else get theirs?
