Munak/Bongun/YaoJun are base on the "jiangshi" a Chinese zombie. Erroneously translate as Chinese vampire. The costume for all 3types are base on Court Costume for the Qing Dynasty.

The Gangshi Trio is chinese based. A better question is why are Munak and Bongun in Payon. As why isn't Bongun there, could be because he traveled down to Payon and died there, dunno.

Even though its origin is Chinese, it appears in Japanese and Korean lore as well (as "Kyonshii" and "Gang Shi" respectively).

well korean and japanese borrow heavily from the chinese language, especially when dealing with written characters. in this case it looks like the pronunciation is pretty similar too.

I like your haunted theory! =p

but but from a simpler point of view...

Formosan Clouded Leopard = baby leopard

Peach trees might be Formosan Rock Macaque ... are the monkeys the ones that do all the attacks!?

these are animals only found in Taiwan

Bloody butterfly = some call Taiwan the butterfly kingdom, had 400+ species at one point but not anymore   :p_swt:

yes I'm Taiwanese  :p_idea:

XD I feel good that someone from Taiwan likes my theory. But, yeah, those facts really simplify the mob concept. But I mean, those spirits are not there just because, or at least that's what I want to believe. :P

Even though its origin is Chinese, it appears in Japanese and Korean lore as well (as "Kyonshii" and "Gang Shi" respectively).

Well, those 3 have a card combo, so it would seem that the lore knows this. It's actually pretty interesting. As in all asian-themed places have common points.

well jing guai's are actually demons in the database, which makes sense as "guai" means demon or ghost. "long" means dragon so that also corresponds to the zhu po long. as far as backstory, not sure.
