I know gravity had considered using this slot for an equipment item to boost stats at some point and never followed through, glancing at it I had an idea. Instead of trying to fit accessories it could be used as a skin/cosmetic appearance slot. Say if you want the stats of Vanil>Dieter but the appearance of Eleanor you could equip an item to simply swap sprites. This could also work with certain monster/boss skins and give a means for addition of new homunculous variety without need to build stats and skills and balance it all over again by using just sprites and animations. This is a feature I would not mind spending money on.
