-One of the following headgears (upper). Choose base on your play style and/or character.
- Rideword Hat 500Kp *Chance to restore hp/sp with each physical 'melee' damage.
- Chick Hat 500Kp *Able to use Double Attack Lv. 2. Great choice for Thief class.
- Vanilmirth Hat 250Kp *For minor autocasting;Lv 1 Bolt spells. !Only get this if your character has good Int and Aspd!
- Yggdrasil Crown Box 300Kp * Heal +1%/refinement to yourself and others. *I've never used this b4, but it's most likely best for support Priests
- Magic Eyes Box 150Kp *Reduce cast time by -10% but increases Sp consumption by +20%
- Pecopeco Hairband Box (upper) 150Kp *Get this for increased movement speed and faster escapes. If you choose to get this, make sure to
ALWAYS carry at least one other headgear to alternate with. This has a heavy downside!
- Robo Eyes Box (middle) 300Kp *Dex +1. Atk and Matk +2% *Very good mid headgear.
Buffs & Consumables
- Battle Manual Box 400Kp *+50% exp (use this with the costumes at spotlight maps to get +140% or +190% Exp) *sorry, forgot how much Exp Spotlight gives.
- Job Manual Box 400Kp *+50% Job Exp. Stacks with Battle Manual. Spotlight trick also applies.
- Increase Agi 10 Scroll Box 40Kp *Contains 25 level 10 Increase Agi Scrolls.
- Blessing 10 Scroll Box 40Kp *Contains 25 level 10 Blessing Scrolls.
- Aspersio 5 Scroll Box 40Kp *Contains 25 level 5 Aspersio Scrolls. Aspersio skill turns your weapon element to Holy. Great against Undead type
monsters. *Save this for when you go to Glast Heim or Niffleheim.
- Small Life Potion Box 50Kp *Regenerates 5% Max HP every 5 seconds for 10 minutes. *You'll only get 10 of these per box. Save them for when you know you're
going to be farming, hunting, grinding, etc. for a long period of time. This can save a lot of Hp items and zeny.
- Light Blue Potion Box 5Kp *Recover 60sp and each box has 25x Light Blue Potion (get 10+ of these, will come in handy, and why not? It's 5Kp, take advantage)
- Heavy Lifter Box 500Kp *Contains 10 Gym Pass. Each Gym Pass allows you to carry 200lbs more.

In my opinion, thats really all the items you would want to get a good head start in the game. For everything, it'll cost approximately 3000Kp give or take. But if you don't have that amount. I'll make a quick list of the essentials. (In my opinion *ahem*)

For 2000KP *including the job manual box and with the 7 Day Halter Lead choice :
- Costume One-Eyed Glasses
- Costume Noah Hat
- Rideword Hat or Chick Hat *Rideword Hat for survivability. Good for your low Vit melee class characters. *Chick Hat for additional damage.
- Robo Eyes
- Battle Manual Box
- Job Manual Box or another Battle Manual Box instead or dont get a second manual at all and spend 400Kp elsewhere
- 10 Light Blue Potion Box
- Halter Lead Box 7 Days 50Kp or 30 Days 150Kp (Your Choice)
*Halter Lead is a mount for you're character that will last 7 Days or 30 Days (depending on purchased) after opening. +25% Movement Speed
when mounted but not able to attack. This is a better +Movement Speed item versus the Peco Hairband. *
Personally I would get the Hairband because it lasts longer, cheaper in the long run, and account storage friendly.
But you do get a cool monster mount with Halter Lead. So its up to you:

Honestly, you can do without the Manuals and save 800Kp. Try to get the Heavy Lifter Box or Gym Pass sometime. That enlarged weight limit comes in handy. But if you're like me, I would use a job manual or two to get to Job level 40 first and do job change as pre-trans character. Unless you're playing an Acolyte or you want certain skills.
The one item that you should absolutely get is the "Robo Eyes." Why? The rest of the gears will be replaced with better gears faster than you think. But its extremely difficult to come by a decent middle headgear if you don't have the zeny.
