I need a very good explanation regarding damage in DS.

Here is a good example, a dragoon class.

For example, I have 32k attack and the skill description stated weapon physical attack: 135% (rolling ground). Is the rolling ground suppose to be higher than 32k, why am I getting only 21k ~ 27k damage for that skill?

Another example is, dragoon ultimate and crosscut. Dragoon's ultimate weapon physical attack is 450% and crosscut is 510% + 800. Why do I get ultimate damage is higher than 160k but crosscut only 38k~4xk?

I really need a good explanation on these because this is totally not making any sense on the skill damage with our attack.

As far as I know all damage is calculated from the base damage not from damage which is added by bonuses. But I think the calculations in Dragon Saga are a mystery for it's own. I have been wondering several times myself and other players too. Sadly I'm not a big help on this, but maybe someone else has collected more knowledge on this subject.

Some skills calculate damage off the Weapons base damage, while other skills calculate damage off your total attack.

(Well, that had to be so, right? '-')

Is the numeral damage something (that doesn'seem to change unless I level-up the Skill) added to it?

Like (for instance): "[Skill] = [Damage]% + [Damage]".

Is it added after getting the "[Damage]%" to make the whole thing?

Or is this number something else? (Which is less probable XD)

I guess nobody can explain well for the damage system in Dragon Saga.

Yeah well.

Back then, I didn'really mind the damage output written in the description.

I've been rather caring about how to use and how "long" is the move.

some go off base weapon damage (min max) despite the description given, some go off total base weapon damage, some go on total pattk/mattk.

i wouldn't worry about the damage as much as the number of times it hits and whether one crit applies to the whole or singular attacks in addition to, cast time, animation time, cooldown, etc,. those are far more important considerations in determining a skills usefulness.

As you mentioned you would not worry about the damage, why do we spent so much to make our weapon +20 for? The damage system in DS is totally messed up. For example, when I was using my zau +14, my attack was 13k and all the skills damage are higher than 13k. This is make sense at all, but when I change to my elga +20, which is 32k attack, all the skill damage is lower than 32k. If that so, why we need to enchant our weapon to +20? I really hope DS's developer team can fix this or give a more deep explanation on these.

Because some classes skills scale off Base weapon attack which is only increased by enchanting higher than 16+ or  soulcrafting to a higher grade.

i think what happens to skill dmg is, that the higher the enchant grade above +15, the lower is the percentage dmg you deal with your skill, at least this would describe what i have experienced, like normal hit with +0 weapon 5k dmg, but skill (~1700%) is 15k, but with +20 weapon 20k normal hit but only 25-30k with the same hit

@TheCristall, as you mentioned +0 skil dmg would be higher when +20 the skill dmg scaled off then what is the point of spending money to make our weapon +20? I think ds's developer need to stand out to give more explanation on these. Or else, the player base is getting smaller and smaller. Bugs everywhere.

You guys keep complaining about the weapon damage but then turn around and ignore the veteran players explanation such as StormHaven and sean718.

I want to ask, do you guys understand what they mean when they say "base" attack and "total" attack? And what you see on your stat window under ATK and MATK isn't the whole cookie-cutter story?

Do you also understand that there is a range for both?

I infer from your constant complaints that you're ignoring their explanation because you don't understand what those term means.

@Infin1te, well it seems that you can give a very good explanation more than anyone else. I'm waiting for your explanation of these. Thanks.

"base attack" : ATK / MATK as stated on the weapon as "Equip option".

"total attack" : ATK / MATK as stated on the weapon as "Total physical / magical attack".

Solution found, argument closed. Anything else ?

Maybe that's because most people often "forget" about monsters' DEF/MDEF status? :q

(Well, I certainly do; since I don't really mind the damage [like I said, but I won'repeat].)

Spoiler
