One thing i see that does not make any sense is the kafra warp system.  Sure, i know people are gonna say you get that with VIP and mentioning all the benefits of VIP but does restricting warps to a lot of towns really make it worth it?  Lets step back and look at this!  By restricting warps to other towns, new players who are trying out the game do not have many options to go explore and enjoy each and every different town.  New players can not navigate to know where it is that they need to go to get to a certain town.  If they start at Alberta on a non vip account, theres no way for a noobie player to know how to get to einbroch so they can change to a blacksmith.  I think the Kafra warp system should not be limited to VIP to get all the warps since this does not increase exp or drop rate rewards.  The only thing accomplished by restricting all warps to VIP only only gets new players confused about the warp system and limits them on where they can go since new players do not have much money to begin with.  Some may simply just give up since they can not reach certain areas to level efficiently.

Because of warp system, new players rather ask for 2k for teleport instead of walking to Prontera FROM IZLUDE

I have to agree. When I was new and VIPless, you should have seen me trying to cross Mt. Mjolnir on an archer (why? I don't remember, but I couldn't find a warp to whereever.) I died. A lot.

I think that's less a problem of the warp system, and more a testament of how much RO sucks at presenting information about how the game works to complete novices. The warp system is just much more obvious. If I hadn't had a friend who was there to teach me about RO from my day 1, I might've been one of them.

the starter quest in the academy gives 20 free teleport tickets.

The GM needs to do a better job of advertising the academy quests.

I agree that Warps do not seem to update with the rest of the world and its updates. Atleast not for non-VIP, I'm not sure what warps are available these days for VIP players.
The game is still expanding from time to time, but many mechanics and their sub-features grow at their own pace months/years later (or possibly not at all). To me the Kafra Warps feel like that, their scripts are not updated (atleast from a non-VIP point of view) to reflect game updates and new available areas.

The GM needs to do a better job of advertising the academy quests.

If only there was a place where all new novices would go so that they're forced to learn the basics of the game. You know, a bit of a 'novice training ground' island.
Oh wait,...
As a long-time player, I find the new Izlude training a lot more overly complex and alienating compared to what we had before. It's also very easy to ignore all of the NPCs and quests and start your adventure without a clue of what's going on. Before you were pidgeonheld into learning about the basics, or atleast getting them told to you before you were let loose on the world of Rune Midgard.

Kafra doesn't need an upgrade, info in game does. Few people knows about an npc that sends you directly from prontera to juno, or about how to go from izlude to rachel in 1 step, or about going from alberta to einbroch in 3 steps, or about the 20 tickets that you get for free teleport. I learned about RO's mechanics by myself and I learned a lot because of that, how to reach places, where to train at certains levels, etc. Kafra isn't the problem

EDIT: And that training island mentioned above is still in classic

It's still around Classic server but in a slightly more basic form. The battle training area doesn't have most of the NPCs from the old Renewal version, though NPCs in the castle are roughly the same. You're unable to acquire job skill manuals and test out each class before making a decision on which you'd like and what town you'd prefer to be warped to.

I'd love to see them implemented though. They'd really be invaluable to newbies.

About the 20 free storage/warp tickets... THAT needs a fix. If you don't have at least 2,000z they don't work. There's something wrong with Kafras' script, so yeah. They need at least an update.

(This was last checked 2months ago. Not sure if it stills checks your money before your inventory

if you do all the starter quest, you get  a incubator which sells for 1500z. You can make the other 500z pretty easy by selling carrots and apples form leveling in pont field.

I have never had this problem that I remember. Maybe once or twice, maybe? I normally hoard all the items I get from Izlude and the Academy, and use up all (or at least a few) teleport tickets before I start selling stuff, so I normally have 0z on me when I use them.

When training grounds existed, everyone who went through the tests would always come out with free teleport/storage tickets. They're more equipped to handle the outside world because the Quest NPCs aren't as scattered as they are in the academy. You know where to go next and you'll be sure to get everything you need.

I really don't like the Izlude Academy. Newbies need to really explore the whole place just to get some rewards. IMO, it's more veteran-friendly than newbie-friendly, since veterans can just skip the quests and move out of Izlude.

NPCs were just as scattered all over the old Training Grounds as they are in the current Izlude. How many people actually went into that room on the right that explained status effects and the different categories of skills when we had the old Training Grounds? Bet most people didn't know it existed. Not like the NPCs were very clear on where players needed to go back then either.

The problem is the developers still have the RPG mentality where players are expected to explore every aspect of an area before moving on. They're not like modern MMO developers who give players a clear path on where to go. I actually like how Izlude is set up, but since most players like to have their hands held nowadays, I guess that's not an appealing approach for RO anymore.

They may be scattered, but at least the whole thing isn't completely skippable like it is now.

I mean, come on, RO is a game that has existed for over a decade, with ever expanding content. People finding they've missed a neat trick or feature even after they've sunk months into RO isn't something weird or rare. It's worlds apart from your standard 60-100 hours RPGs. I think forcing newbies to go through a 15-30 minutes unskippable tutorial isn't a mortal sin, when they have years of free exploring with very little hand holding afterward.

The old Training Grounds has always been skippable. I remember quite clearly there is an NPC you meet right after entering the castle that asks you if you want to go through the tutorial section OR jump right into RO. I've never started a new character and not encounter that option in the history of RO's existence.

You shouldn't feel ashamed, as far as I remember the skip option had been removed on the Renewal (at that time Valkyrie) server.

Besides, it was much easier to level your Novice by following the Training Grounds than by hunting monsters. A whole lot easier.

This was the only reason to run through the old training grounds.

Well, it seems like a legit reason to me. You teach new players some fundamental info about the game and reward them with some good exp. Or seen from a different perspective: you prevent people from skipping the tutorial and then bothering other people with needless questions by more-or-less forcing them to go through the training grounds.

Well the NPCs to the right (on the latest update of the training grounds) didn't give out any rewards anyway. But to those who did, they were pretty much required before progressing through the training grounds. In the academy, you're pretty much lured out to the world because you can just head straight to Prontera and forget all about your academy enrollment. Plus the academy's too big.

I know as well that you can skip the training grounds, but that's through NPC option only. It's really up to you if you don't want to continue with the training grounds but as long as you're there, you'll feel the need to complete it and not get sidetracked.

Yea, I know that being a RPG, the academy makes much more sense. But sadly, majority of the newbies playing RO right now probably don't care about the RPG aspect and therefore won't even care about exploring the academy.

IF only there was something interesting to keep on progressing through the academy (like perks for following Lumin's story), then that would be something. Even people who don't care about RPG may get hooked by a good and enticing story. Unfortunately, Lumin's story just ends there at Izlude. Maybe he just quit and stayed as a Novice forever. <_<

And really... it's 2015 already. Gravity should really think about changing how the NPC dialogues pop out. It should look more appealing rather than just being something to skim through.

Why is this not in the game yet? :p_omg: Man he'd look badass as an Assassin with that hair (unless he wants to be a Rogue).

Yes, I didn't say anything about makeup.
