Let's ignore Hornet/Thief Bug since we don't have numerical results, just anecdotal evidence. :P

If target hard DEF gets converted to soft DEF specifically for DB, DEF reducing damage directly might make sense,  If Senshirou is the one that cast Stonehard Skin on the other player, the DEF boost from Stonehard Skin would be 140 (56 * 10 / 4). The Stonehard Skin version took 141 less damage than the normal version.

Provoke is harder to calculate because we don't know what level of Provoke was used, but since I'm assuming the target DEF was 295 before Stonehard Skin and Provoke...

Normal DEF (soft + hard): 295

w/ Stonehard Skin: 435

after Provoke: 402

Provoke only affects hard DEF, but unfortunately we don't know what the soft or hard DEF of the target is, and 295 total DEF is just an assumption.

idk anymore what happen to this skill D=

nvm it's the ignore defence part from kvm that works.

do 20 more damage LOL

it's the defence ignoring part only that works. and i think the way defence work with DB is just by substraction. most likely DB damage - (SoftDef+HardDef)

here some data that i got :

#Hard Soft MDEF DB(should be 21655) DBwithoutSoftdef DBwithoutbothDef
7 7 1 21629 hornet 21636 21643
18 3 0 21622 lunatic 21625 21643
22 22 21599 stainer 21621 21643
24 3 2 21616 pupa 21619 21643
24 5 0 21614 fabre 21619 21643
24 15 3 21604 thief bug 21619 21643
27 4 0 21612 chonchon 21616 21643
28 12 20 21603 creamy 21615 21643
36 25 17 21582 poporing 21607 21643
37 34 0 21572 coco 21606 21643
40 36 0 21567 yoyo 21603 21643
49 37 3 21557 orc baby 21594 21643
52 34 3 21557 orc warrior 21591 21643
52 34 8 21557 horn 21591 21643
58 36 8 21549 argos 21585 21643
69 54 50 21520 dustiness 21574 21643
83 36 17 21524 orc lady 21560 21643
88 57 32 21498 argiope 21555 21643
90 44 0 21509 mantis 21553 21643

to orc warrior i tried with my +12 glorious claymore it's just doing 36 more damage. i calculated the normal DB damage with the formula we have, and it should be 21655 damage at normal. but actually the normal damage is 21643.

Interesting!

Thank you for applying this much needed rigor!

Could the difference between 21643 and 21655 be due to perverse rounding? RO formulae are notorious for having floor()'s at seemingly random places in the formula (integer math?)

you're right Azzy.

i can conclude the Base DB formula is Floor[Floor(CurHP/50 + MaxSP/4) x (Skill Level x Base Level / 150)] x (95 + Dragon Training Level x 5)

you can add Ranged% damage and Elemental Modifier Applied to whole Damage and substracted by target defence.

Floor{Floor[Floor(CurHP/50 + MaxSP/4) x (Skill Level x Base Level / 150)] x (95 + Dragon Training Level x 5)/100} x (1 + %Ranged/100) x (%ElementMod/100) - (Target Soft Defence + Target Hard Defence)
