NOTE: This is my first tutorial regarding anything whatsoever about iRO. Also, it's been almost a year since I came up with it, so I apologize if there's any misleading info or lack of content. Yet, I hope it turns out to be useful to you. Thank you kindly for taking your time reading it. May God’s benison be with you and those who are aspiring to be guardians of peace and justice.

STATS:

NOTES: These are just recommendations; you can make a build based on your gameplay style.
SP is really an issue for RGs, since we need to spread out the stats points into 4-6 stats, not remaining enough to make a good pool of MSP in order to cast our expensive skills. Most RGs I’m acquainted with carry with them a fair amount of SP potions, which sucks, because you have to keep a space in your inventory for SP potions when you could have more gears or weapons instead.

ATK:    90-100 (Good output damage and weight limit for equips; You will carry several items so take it);
AGI:    60-100 (It’s crucial for Vanishing Point’s atk speed, you will also be immune to sleep and bleeding);
VIT:    90-100 (Immunity to various status ailments and a good MHP pool for mobbing);
INT:      1-40 (It’s ideal to have an average MSP pool for casting skills);
DEX:   100-120 (Cast and HIT; RGs must have an excellent HIT rate in order to fight High Flee mobs. Using equips to enhance it is advisable);
LUK:      1-40 (Gives you more resistance to status ailments, boost your HIT and Flee rate, ATK and many other sub-stats).

KEY ITEMS:

NOTES: I will solely be giving detailed equipment info regarding this build, nothing less. Anything that increases your output damage and reduces received damage is recommended (Elemental Spears, Racial / Elemental Cards, etc) is at your own will.
GEARS:

  • +9 Vanargand Helm [1] (I preferably compound cards that grant immunity to status ailments i.e.: Marduk Card);
  • +9 Nidhoggur’s Shadow Garb [1] (1% chance of gaining 1% of the damage inflicted to an enemy/enemies as SP. It also increase your MSP. The best decision is to go for cards that decrease received damage: Baby Orc, Raydric, Noxious…);
  • Pet: Incubus Pet - +5% MSP, also adds 2% chance of gaining a percentage of the damage inflicted to an enemy/enemies as SP.

NOTES: This is a three-way resource of maintaining your MSP at max while being able to spam Overbrand. No need for SP potions.
The “+9 Vanargand Helm [1]” is your main resource for HP and SP restoration. It’s amazingly interesting how Overbrand works well with this Helm, since it is able to hit a good deal of mobs multiple times, plus the skill delay for reuse is not an issue ( OB will push the mobs away from the caster ). The “+9 Nidhoggur’s Shadow Garb [1]” boosts your MSP. Making it reliable at all times.
Cursed Hand is an awesome and versatile accessory for RGs. It gives you +10 HIT and increases your HP recovery rate. It is an formidable substitute for a RWC Ring.

WEAPONS:

NOTES: Your main weapons will be less focused on damage output. However, over upgraded ones are a good choice in order to balance it. Your focus here is to implement a resource of HP without requiring Pots whatsoever to restore your health. Therefore, Hunter Fly Cards will be your lifetime friends. They will trigger their function fighting against huge mobs, in this case, the more the merrier.

  • Hunter Fly Card - Adds a 3% chance to restore 15% of the damage dealt as HP to the user with each physical attack.

Reference: iW Database - http://db.irowiki.org/db/item-info/4115/

  •

+10/11/12 Pike [4] – Pike is an excellent choice. The four slots will guarantee your chances of gaining HP per damage dealt (Making it indestructible with a Golem Card is optional, but also recommended when fighting mobs with a certain risk of having your weapon broken, it’s crucial to have at least two Ancient Mummy Cards compounded to the weapon due to its +20 HIT boost), and don’t forget to carry Elemental Converters;

+9 Gungnir [2] - Gungnir is the most reliable tool for High Flee mobs. Its +30 HIT is the best friend for a RG aiming at a slippery target. Also, the two slots are perfect to fit in two Hunter Fly Cards, which is also ideal (no less than 2 HFC, otherwise using only one will be a waste). The only drawback is its element (Wind type), as you might have probably experienced it. Neutral property ones are far better for an all-around damage against elemental mobs (Ghost types are an exception of course). That’s why I advise you to carry Elemental Converters, 15-20 of each will be enough for your daily errands.  Finally, it is enchantable ( yay \o/ ). Whether enchanting or purchasing it, you must aim for a +10 HIT combined (whether Fighting Spirit 5/6/7 or Sharp 5). You can reach +41 HIT rate. No mob will be able to escape from your steady aim.

Reference: iW Database - http://db.irowiki.org/db/item-info/1416/

KEY SKILLS:

1st CLASS: BASH LVL 10; ENDURE LVL 10;
2nd CLASS: SPEAR QUICKEN LVL 2-10, Spear Quicken will considerably boost the first hit of the Overbrand skill;
3rd CLASS: OVERBRAND LVL 5; SHIELD SPELL LVL 1; PRESTIGE LVL 5; VANGUARD FORCE LVL 5, VANISHING POINT LVL 7-10, PINPOINT ATTACK LVL 2-3.

NOTES: These skills are the ones I use. I rarely use any other than these while mobbing or going solo in TI maps or hunting MvPs.

In sum, you won’t need any kind of pots to keep your health and sp up while spamming Overbrand. You will be able to solo in many places. The only real issue is to master Overbrand. You are on your own this case. I have been stuck to places, while trying to cast Overbrand, and I couldn’t cast it, I ended up dying while being motionless. Mobs that can push you back and/or can’t be pushed back will turn out to be your worst enemies. You better stay alert for this matter, if you miss one single atk of your skill, you will be eaiting grass by the roots.

For optimal SP return(and a decent amount of hp too :3) you can use a Thanatos Spear with above said items/pets, that additional 5% restore for each one goes a hell of a ways, especially since OB can hit up to 3 times on the targets, each one is separate and has a new chance per hit to trigger the effect.  Also the spear does deal nice damage for a spear that can't be enchanted and has a slot, I still dish out between 20 and 50k depending on the enemy and whether or not I have a hat that changes the element that I then swap out with my +9Vanargand(stupid me accidentally put a Deviruchi card in it instead of what i wanted to, but immune to blind at least so that's something, i wear glasses with marduk) and when heavily mobbed I just use OB and poof, hp goes back up and so does sp most of the time.

Mobs that can't be knocked back take 3 hits from OB so you can still use that to your advantage for damage.  Stun them(pray it works) with Moon slasher and then move as fast as u can to OB them, they'll take 3 hits and if u are able to get a second cast in, you're gold

Stat wise, mine has no Agi really, I don't spam VP unless I need to and the berserk alone does that for me.  Not too worried about bleed since the hp is so high and i never run out of sp, just use shield spell to get the heal on you if u need to (level 3, but careful if your'e wearing something that grants immunity because the resistance to that status is overruled by the skill and how much the shield is refined and whatnot, so you wont be immune to anything, just resistant and it stays until logout i think, which is stupid and i wish they'd fix that).

Best shields for that if you're fighting and plan on using shield spells lvl 2 and up is a Sacred Mission [1](it's heavy but helps with the damage boost, indestructible and has Mdef to use with lvl 2 spell shield), Strong Shield, and Valk shield for its element resistances and overall boosts for shield spell's buffs/damage.

Wow! Thank you very much for adding so much to this dusty topic haha! The only thing I would point out is the Thanatos Spear, which is very useful for the dmg and the HP AND SP leech, but I think it lacks HIT for fighting against High Flee mobs such as Angra, I mean, there are food buffs and the Shadow Gear that increase HIT, but the tutorial is for those who can't really afford it, still, if anyone makes a little research, everything is POSSIBLE, you can give away two Mummy Cards ( 20 HIT each ) on the pike, and find means to compensate for the loss in HIT and vice-versa for whatever stat you want to increase/enhance.

Oh, and the AGI is for VP for fighting Boss mobs, which is, imho, the best way to MvP.

Thank you once more for your great contribution to this thread!!!

Normal grinding places? Or Quest Stuff too??

For Old School grinding (till you get your first RG AOE):

1on1 Build Skills:
- Magmarings in Veins Field 3 if you have Rapid Smitting.
- Amatsu Dungeon 3, Niffl Field 1 and 2 for Holy Cross Builds.

AoE Builds - Grand Cross and Magnum Break:
- Niffl Field 2, Malaya Hospital, Magma Dungeon 2

___
If you get your RG AoE:

- Magma Dungeon 2: ~130
- Rachel Sanctuary 1: 110 - 130
- Juperos 1: ~130 (hard though)
- Scaraba Dun. 2: 130-150+
- Alde Dun 02: 135 - 160
- Eclage Tower 2: 140+
- Nightmare Clock Tower 160-175

Bouty Board Quests do help a lot besides TI´s.

Edit: Before Scaraba Hole, Abyss Lake 03 were super good for Royal Guards 120+. I used a 2 HF Gaebolg, now you could use a Thana Spear there.

Whichever is faster :D
I'm just stuck in low ti right now.
Have newby gears so I'll probably have to stay at lower places.
I have a +7 kingbird hunting spear, incubus pet (neutral), Eden gear and around ~300M for gear.
You think I should go RWH and HBP (both +9 = ~400M) or get a +9 vana for (~350M) at my current state? Thanks a lot!

Oh and how to get to some of these places? Often times there isn't a guide to get there and if I search it, it's for other servers that may not be the same. Thnx agn!

If you can get RWH and HBP then sure, get it then over the Vana :)

Malaya Hospital > http://irowiki.org/w..._in_Port_Malaya

Rachel Sanct. > http://irowiki.org/w...Sanctuary_Quest

Hall of Abyss and Guild Dungeons > http://irowiki.org/w...vestment_System

Eclage and Bifrost Tower > http://irowiki.org/w...n#Bifrost_Tower
(you aint need a quest to enter the Dungeon)

Nightmare Clocktower > Go inside the Clocktower in Al De Baran. Then go Up, Right and Up again like you would go to the warp to Level 3 of the Tower. There is a NPC. Talk to him, choose the Level and Pay him.

Hi gurus,

This is a great guide!
I am return RO player since 2005 and I just came back recently.

Things have changed a lot since the 2005 version. LOLX

I just turned into RG today also. :)

I have read a lot of guide on RG lvling from iro and warpportal.

But it'll be good if anyone can help my following questions:

a. Where to get Vanargand Helm? I tried looking at Ragial but it seems it's not a usual sold item?

b. What's the most effective way to upgrade it to +9? I am thinking to upgrade myself, but how much +7 safe cert, elu, and HD elu required to prepare to upgrade it?

c. what does OB and DB means?

d. What's are the recommended weapons * cards for leveling until bio4?

Appreciate if anyone can help on this.

Thanks!

Hi, I stopped playing at 2005 too, so we have something in common.

a) Vana helm is a cash shop item, so you need to spend real cash to get it directly or you can buy it from other player for 140m++

B) Enriched Hammer NPC. Its a temporary event and currently ON right now. To get to +7 you need at least 5 +7 cert if you are VIP (you need more if you are not VIP maybe about 10 +7 cert is needed)

c) OB = Overbrand, a RG AOE skill.  DB = RK's Dragon Breath, Dead Branch, Double Bolt or Database.

d) Hunter Fly card in a Thanatos Spear or +10/11/12 Pike [4] with 4 HF card if you feel insecure.

+10 is normally cheaper and there is no drawback, and you don`t need 4 HF cards, just two are good enough to work with Vana + Nidhogg Manteau + Incubus Pet.
