When I first started doing forum events, the interest was through the roof. I've noticed it's declined a lot over time (except maybe the loading screen ones).

A lot of it has had to do with lack of faith in judging systems, but I'm not here to talk about that. I'm more interested in what motivates people to participate.

Are there specific prizes that would draw more people into attempting these things (not just hats, but within reason)? Is there a specific medium that people are interested in (past mediums: cooking, writing, etc)? 

Though I am not hosting them myself anymore, I'd really like to see forum events outside of the artist community continue on, and I think a thread like this would provide some useful insight.

Would you consider hosting one yourself if you knew how/had the opportunity?

 

What would bring you out of the woodwork to participate, personally? I'm not here to discuss judging issues, so if you want to talk about that go make your own thread.

I like events that are easy to take part in online.

Drawing, comic making, poem, the poster one was fun, short story, video -  simple things.

 

The sewing, cooking, and stuff are great to see, I personally can't really take part in those, but I love the variety.

 

As far as prizes go, I'm content with cute hats n_n (so long as I actually receive them once in a while.... and I usually don't tbh)

People in the past have complained that cooking/crafting/whatever involves a certain amount of $ to get materials and make - especially if they don't win anything - so I think sticking to digitally constructed projects would be best.

Well not to be a meanie-pants but participation has never guaranteed victory.

 

I really do love looking at some of the real life creative things, perhaps those events should have a participation prize. And if they complain, well tough... grow up I guess =/

 

After all the spirit of it is to have fun, one day I'll finish my felt sleipnir slippers and post them. Cuz they're fun.

I think it's more like people don't want to bother unless there's at least a decent participation prize, as you said putting a lot of effort and getting nothing probably throws back a lot of people.

My only artistic skill is crafting and sculpting, so those events I am happy to participate in.

 

The only thing that has turned me off from some of these contests is the lack of clarity in the rules and judging, but that does seem to be getting better lately.

That's actually a somewhat plausible idea. I think they were supposed to be given out for signing up for a warp portal mobile game (forget which one) but they didn't happen and we were given a valk helm look alike that shaved a second off of cast time for a limited time (so many people were pissed, reasonably so, especially in pvp haha).

 

I wonder if custom mercenaries (provided they are balanced) could be a possible thing. Probably not because kRO but hopppppeeeee.

You should craft a scene or something and take a photo of it and submit it as a loading screen. Pretty much guaranteed CC hat.

If you're going to make a forum event, ask the mods/cms to keep the thread in the community chat section and pin it there that way more people will see it. I like joining forum events if i see one no matter what the prize is. not a lot of people go to the event section you know

Doesn't have a lot to do with the judging. It just depends on the type of event.

People still entered even if they questioned Oda or whoever else that was judging.

Just depends on if the prize or event is worth the effort.

In bold: I think that's the only reason that pins in comm. chat became a problem, there were just too many of them happening at once. Maybe there can be a rule where only one can run at a time? ;o
