I'll try my best here to answer your question for the Gen-Mech curiosity of yours.
Also, before I start here are some links that can help you if you choose the genetic path! If you are still stuck, just post a question in the merchant class section and everyone will pinch in to help you!

Genetics Pros
- Has four builds: MVP, Brewing, WoE and Cart-Cannon build)
- Best MVP killer in all of the available class.
- Can cook on their own foods, brew their own pot (That is if your Gene is a brewer build.)
- Can make their own acid bombs and other special materials that are required for either leveling, buffs, item creation and MVP-ing
- They have Homunculus that can support them against PVM monsters, players in WoE/PvP and MVP.
- Good AoE damage (Cart Cannon)
- (I think I am missing other points here, if I did the other guys here can fill it out. )
Cons:
- Can be very expensive to gear (You can still gear your gene properly and have a satisfactory outcome but if you are striving to be the best, then you will need to invest heavily.)
- If the homunculus you chose is an amistr and transforming it into a Sera, then you might be waiting for a longer time since you will be striving for it's loyalty skill. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter, unless you have an OCD of getting the loyalty skill later.
- (There might be more but those are what I can think of at the moment. The others can help fill in the void here.
Mechs Pros:
- Has two build orientation: Pure Axe Mechanic and Mado-Gear build (both can do MVP with them)
- Can MVP (with HSCR build and possible with arm-cannon if you have patience with it.)
- Very Useful and Destructive in Woe and/or in PVP situations. (Reason: the mech's mado suit skills are mostly party buffs and class debuffer orientated. They are destructive because of their skill called Suicidal Destruction. (It self-destructs their suit causing them to have no suit afterwards, and thus killing all players around a 9x9 cell radius. Neat huh?)
- Has a giant Pneuma called Neutral Barrier that can protect players from range attacks. However it's a con as well because players under the Neutral Barrier skill can't launch range attacks as well.
-Good DPS damage.
- It is a very fun class to play.
Cons:
-Other skills like Suicidal Destruction, PileBunker, Neutral Barrier, requires items in order to work. ie. Self-Destruct button, Pile Bunker, Barrier Builder
- Can be costly to play with. (Reason: With Arm Cannon skill, you are not only need a cannonball to fire it, but you also need fuel to make an attack. Most of the Mado-Gear skills requires fuel.)
- Not ArchBishops friendly when we are on a party (Due to Coluseo Heal bug. When a Mado-Mech is invited to a party it bugs the heal range of Coluseo Heal bug. The only solution at the moment, is to uninvite and re-invite the Mado-Mech and to make sure that he is the last person on a party.)
- Expensive and heavy reliance to cast aoe spells. (see the following below:)
- Cannot be directly healed by ArchBishops nor be applied AGI when manually clicking/ (But Canto candidus works because it's a party buff)
- Only way to heal themselves is by having a WitchPumpkin Hat + alarm mask combo, yggdrassil seeds/berry, ranked white slims or an AB's sanctuary skill.
- Also, they can heal themselves more using the Repair skill but it's a con since it requires 1-5 skill points to get good heals from it and it also requires fuel.
-Mado suit is loss when you die. (You have to keep going back to Prontera or Eden to get Mado-Suit back)

For your other question, it is up to you on what you fancy more really. The best advice I can give to you there is to play them all and get a feel to them.
By the time you are reading this, I would apologise to you since I left you a whole block of text for you to read and also for any other sentences that doesn't make any sense. ;___;
