As the title suggests:
Salutations to you all, just letting you all know a situation I was in and wondering if any of you were also once met with this similar dilema......
I know this girl who loves to game as much as the next nerd, and we were talking about the MMO's we play and the mechanics behind them. As much as you have guessed, she plays the, as she calls them, "modern MMO's", which are your everyday MMO(That isnt Ragnarok Online 1!!) out there where they basically feed you the gears(with crazy stat bonuses) as you progress, have those wierdarse cooldowns, pots aren't spammable, monsters only hit once per 2-3 seconds meaning the tank is like some godly damage soaker, healer buffs last 30 minutes, where the most damage a boss will ever do is 1k which take 5-10 seconds to cast...........that kind of bull. So then I begin talking abit about RO1(spoke only about the amounts of HP classes can get, how pots are spammable), to which we all know the mechanics are not like those "modern MMO's". I then talk about how my AB can't survive onslaughters of high end monsters by itself and how, even if I am decked out with the best equips and the best cards, the damage will still hurt............she snaps at me telling me how I am obviously not building a priest class correctly because with the amount of HP we can get on RO compared to the MMO's she plays, any class should be able to soak damage as good as a tanker, and even more so if pots are spammable, obviously not casting all the buffs........etc. As she complained to me, all I could think about in my head was, "I haven't even told you most boss monsters in RO1 hit 6-7 times per second and do more than 2-3k per hit, disregarding the skills they would instantly cast simultanously which could potentially 1HKO". Of course, being the gentleman I am, I just simply sit there quietly taking the criticism being spat at my face.
It would be better for her to play the game to understand the difficulty between RO1 and those "modern MMO's", so when I suggested she should try the game and showed her some pictures of what the game looks like, she rejected it saying that it was, "such bad graphics its probably not worth playing, I like to play games that look good, since good looking games have better gameplay and quite frankly, old games don't really pique my interest. I'm pretty sure every other MMO is better than that".
So how many of you were in such a similar situation?
