So, yeah, announcements.

An announcement by itself is a good thing, it allows GMs to tell some important message to players across the whole server. But, when the amount of announcements is large and most of them is repetitive over and over again, it starts to be complicated to fetch anything useful when it happens to be broadcasted. At some point you just start to ignore them, to some degree, and because of that you might miss something that actually would be good to pay attention to. "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", right? In the end, announcements lose their importance.

In addition to the part above, there is one more issue about them. I'm not sure how many players do the same but I use the option to show private messages in chat panel (not idea what is the proper name of it) instead of pop-up 1:1 window, I'm not fond of losing chats when I move between maps or when I teleport, or to be distracted by someone PMing me while hunting tough mobs. And those sneaky announcements like to hijack into every chat tab, ignoring all settings and having the same yellow color like private messages, which makes those rare PMs you get to "drown".

Ok, I'm done with reasoning, let's touch the main point of the topic. It would be really nice if we could get a option to filter announcements too like normal chat messages using NoSpam. I think it's quite fair to let players to disable some of them which they don't like or are tired of. There is no need to tell about same fraud tricks multiple times, I'm pretty sure most of us already learned them by heart.

Can we get this feature? I'd appreciate it, and probably other players too.

i guess the reasoning is that if you are configuring nospam to block those warnings you would be aware of the scam and not fall victim to it...

I didn't tell to remove those announcements, it's good to inform new players about possible tricks. I just suggest a possibility to filter those which you're 100% won't fall for so no need to be reminded about them.

And this propose isn't not only about messages which inform players to be beware of scam, it's also about event announcements, like Octopus event, Lucky Raffle, St. Patrick, etc. Pretty much always there is some event to flood global notification system.

It would be neat if you could also outright block players permanently through the nospam plugin.

System announcements such as maintenance countdowns, player warnings, VIP header, and end of the world announcements are okay but what's not okay for me is the event announcement spam. I'd like to have chat tab solely for events rather than it getting mixed into everything to be honest.

I can remember the time when the Raffler was around. The announcement of winners was getting absurd coz I was bitter I wasn't winning any. jk. Not to mention it was around the same time as the Tako event.

It would be nice to have clear distinctions between event announcements and system announcements. :)

They won't allow us to do that, the reasons should be obvious.

Isn't there an announcements filter on the chat box (labeled as Regular Message)?

For me, they're not obvious enough, otherwise this proposal wouldn't have been created. My only guess of such case would be due to advertisement nature of announcements but they hardly advertise anything.

Well, I have a tab with only "Exp gained" marked on and still get announcements. Pretty much sure you will get them even if no option is selected.

It's because it's a server announcement, it might be something important and straight up filtering them all they aren't comfortable with.

and then you start ET because you didn't see server announcements detailing an emergency restart or maint and get all mad when you get d/c'd.

I'm not really sure why some people stretch the idea of filtering some notices to complete removal of them...

Ok, how about tagging announcements and make it possible to filter selected ones? For example:

[A] Server requires a urgent restart in 10 min. Please log out before that.
[B] The GM Team will never ask for usernames and passwords in game, ask you to log into an outside website, or contact you on skype.

[C] A total of 6670 Green Ales have been Redeemed.

[C] A bonus event will be added after tallying the Green Ales redeemed.

And make it possible to select [B] and/or [C] to filter. The most important ones - group [A] - would be not-filterable.

Well be that as it may, can't just put something in without their approval and this was explicit.  Its like with the PM addition to nospam, we had to make sure it wouldn't be blocking PMs from a GM.

This is possible, but they would also have to change NPC scripts to add tags to broadcasts.

Umm I don't think you're understanding at all...its a really heavy lift for a minor thing, we call this cost/benefit analysis in which does the project have a even or more payback.  In this case as ren pointed out, too much is required to change on the server/client end to warrant such a change when more important things could be done with Section 9/Production Team's allocated time.  Its too big of a heavy lift.
