There used to be one named 'Chaos' and they launched another one named 'Loki.' One day, the two were merged and named 'ChaosLoki.'

The merge happened waaay before AoV so imo it wasn't all bad. Everyone kinda survived the merge.

 

Just some times ago, they launched another one named 'Iris.' It's the server I've been playing on since then.

OK so there is this news from idRO2 that there'll be another server merge on April 8th.

This time they'll be merging Iris with ChaosLoki. The new merged server'll be named 'Fenrir.'

 

ChaosLoki is the home of OP players swimming in dough. Everything's priced high and sometimes you'd use real money.

Looking at Iris AH, you'll see that price is a non-issue. It's pretty much cheap with the most expensive ones being sold for 300-400K++ bucks. Those are mostly costumes.

 

There is also the power gap between players. Those from ChaosLoki are usually strong, equipped with top seeds.

Strong players on Iris are a lot but even they are dead meats in front of some ChaosLoki players.

 

How do we deal with merges in general?

If there wouldn't be any restrictions, my advice to Iris players would be join one of ChaosLoki's alliance or form a new one with other ChaosLoki carnivore guilds. You can't take away their OP-ness doesn't mean you can't take advantage of it. Before new server is born, study the pricey in ChaosLoki, refrain from selling and start investing on more least volatility items. After merged, apply the new price - or ChaosLoki's price - whenever you're selling to players and things shouldn't be overwhelming.

Well in ro2 merge with sea, They came with all their stuff, zeny, imbalanced pots, runes thus making new players (ph) players that just started move to the new freyja sever because it was new. I just stuck thur the game because there was no way i was gonna level another ML 30 in freyja . But hey i grit my teeth and continued like always.

To clarify, our SEA players actually came over with account bound items, numerous item restrictions, and a zeny cap. The issues that come with merges generally boil down to several things. A very big difference in the lifespan of servers and different in game economies pose an immediate issue. The long term issue is how well the cultures of the servers mesh. The former is easier to address than the later since there are restrictions that can be put in place to transition the players in to the receiving server.
It sounds like your merger issue is more about game economy rather than a culture clash since it's all the same publisher. We had the challenge of migrating in players from a different publisher servicing the SEA region so they could keep enjoying RO2 without saying goodbye to the characters they had developed. They came over from a mature server community into another mature server community. It's easier to merge when servers are new and have similar economies.
If your publisher puts some time into applying item restrictions and zeny caps before merging, it may help with the age and wealth differences of your servers. However, that will create a lot of player outcry from your older server, so I don't know if they would be willing to do too much restricting. 
As a player, server mergers can be seen as really great or really terrible depending on how you view change and encountering new people. If you are the type who sees it as a chance to make some friends and have new people to compete with, you'll do okay in the merge process.

Well as long as both servers are run by the same company and feature the same mechanics, there shouldn't be a problem.  Unlike the disaster we had in iRO2 and how poorly it was handled for the people merging into ODIN and the existing players there already.

I'm still wondering what happened to the players of FREYA. I started on ODIN before the news of SEA players merge didn't get far and the merge and new server FREYA happened. I decided to discontinue my ODIN and play on FREYA because back then both servers have almost the same population (most likely 4:3 in favor of ODIN. CH1 of each servers are almost same bars). After the mid to late December player numbers start to drop. Untill now CH1 of FREYA has never broke 2 bars even on weekends.

 

And how to deal with the changes: HOPE FOR THE BEST EVEN THOUGH IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN (just like opening a mimic box ).

You have to go into it thinking the best, and expecting the worst.  When we had our merge I tried to be positive and welcome people as best I could.  Sadly from the people who had stuck it out post-AOV I watched friend after friend leave the game because of it...aside from differences in game mechanics between servers we had cultures that really didn't mesh well.  Up until then I had always maintained that regardless where people are from they are basically the same.  I am not so sure now.  

 

Pub chat has become a cesspool of nothing but spam, racial slurs from all sides and pornographic comments.  No one does anything to fix it or try to create harmonious integration.  

 

Even though items were bound many were still OP and those players have those items.  It's still heavily unbalanced in a game that was already suffering from imbalance.

 

Hopefully your merge goes better.  Personally I am to the point where I hear the word merge and shudder.

Hoka, just stay positive! Yes some people wont enjoy the merge but you may find some great new friends if you keep an open mind! With our merge, my guild personally didn't have any culture shock as it was already very international. New people we brought in have the same concerns for the game as we do, since they had played as long as we have been. Freyja and the TW server are roughly around the same age so you wont have to worry as much over crazy OPness from the difference in servers. The AH market went crazy for a few weeks, but like other things it started to balance out eventually.
