Hi guys, I'm a returning player from way back before... probably when the Super Novice was still at job max 70.. Did a lot of catching up and hit a snag making a decision about Weapon Mastery skills and weapons. So my questions are "Is it worth investing points on those masteries or not?" and "Any weapon recommendations?"

We have 3 weapon mastery skills available at our disposal and I'm unsure if I should get 1 or more, or maybe none at all:
Sword Mastery = +40 ATK at lv.10 yet only works with Swords and Daggers.

Axe Mastery = +30 ATK at lv.10 yet only works with Swords and Axes
Weapon Research = +20 ATK  & +120% accuracy at lv.10... and the useless forge rate bonus. requires Hilt Binding.

I'm just not sure if they really provide a big impact in improving Melee performance damage-wise or simply drop them if not that significant; I'm also unsure with Weapon Research if it's accuracy bonus is real and if together with the bonus ATK, applies on any weapon. Perhaps someone can also enlighten me about that skill.

These are the current weapons I have at my disposal:

+6 Star Dust Blade [1]
+9 Town Sword [2]
+4 Platinum Shotel
+7 Orcish Axe [4]

Eden Dagger III

I fancy swords (that ASPD penalty sucks though) as my main weapon at the moment but would prefer optimal alternatives in the future if possible - hence I consider using maybe Axes (nice ASPD) and Maces (better damage vs size modifier) but I have no clue on any good mace to use at the moment... Probably will insert a Side Winder Card in a slot to take advantage of Double Attack lv.10.

Oh, more about my Super Novice if it helps:

- melee hybrid type

- likes having high ASPD as much as he can achieve

- enjoys auto-proc spells to aid /nc damage output

- alternates between offense and support depending on situation.

- dependent on Soul Link buff.

- will go on any map as long as he can handle

PS:
Does Hilt Binding increase duration of buffs from a blacksmith party member?

Thanks in advance!

For melee types I think the Masteries are an ok use of points. Fighting stronger monsters is still going to be tough though.

If you want high ASPD, then you can forget about swords.  :heh:

The best weapons would be Glorious Morning Star (most ASPD) or Queen Faceworm Leg (MATK will also improve your autocasts).
