Classic won't run, Renewal works fine, how to get Classic to run?

I've been gone a while, and had to get a new computer.  Which means Win 8.

Already added exclusions in my anti virus for RO.  Running RO as admin.  Renewal works fine, even in full screen.

Classic.... does not. I get tiny window, or I get "Cannot init 3d3 OR grf file has problem."

The Classic setup just gives me an empty drop down menu for resolution - no matter what compatibility mode I run it in, no matter if I use  Direct3D HAL or any other option.

 

Turing my anti virus completely off didn't do anything, either.

 

Video drivers are as up to date as they can be.  Help please?

I saw this from a thread..
 

1.) Right click Ragnarok Online's icon in your desktop and select “Properties".
2.) On the Properties window, under shortcut tab, click the "Open  File Location" button.
3.) You will now be redirected to Ragnarok Online's installation directory. On this window, look for this file "Setup_Classic.exe"
4.) Once you have found the file, Run this file as administrator and make sure something is selected in the first two menus. If one or both of them has no options available (which will probably be the case) that means that you have a graphics driver problem.
5.) Now, click the Start button and select "Run".
6.) Type in "dxdiag" and see if it works and brings up a diagnostic program. If it does, go to 8.
7.) If that doesn't work then that means that you don't have Microsoft DirectX installed on your computer.(download it from Microsoft website) 
8.) Run Ragnarok Setup_Classic.exe again and check if it now gives you option. If it still does not give you any options, then that means that you do not have working graphics drivers installed for your graphics card. You can download them from the manufacturer of your graphics card (or, in the case of some systems, from the manufacturer of the computer).
9.) In case you were able to see options on the Ragnarok Setup_Classic.exe, then that means you have your graphics issue solved. Try to run the game again.

I fixed it, it was win 8 being stupid.

God, I hate win 8.

 

Close/delete thread please.

This doesn't work for me. But I know I'm not having problems with my graphics card because other games like Tera are working fine.

 

Renewal works fine.

My classic Setup resolution is blank.

The game sometimes opens but is super small.

I often (99% of the time) get an error message after clicking Start on the patcher saying "No ClientInfo File !!" and "C:\Gravity\Ragnarok Online\data\RixSquirrel_10.eot " (there are characters I don't know how to type after the file name"

Tried running the patcher, exe and setup as administrator.

Tried running compatibility mode for windows XP SP2, SP3 and windows 7.

Tried creating shortcut to clragexe.exe and adding the target -1old1-.

Tried reinstalling from official download and a wiki install guide.

Tried reinstalling and patching clients (renewal and classic) in different sequences.

 

none of the above has worked for me... Any other suggestions?
