[limitations]

Hi, i played Crusaders and paladins in the old days, pre-renewal GC build with heal etc.. 
Alot has changed, I just became a RG today, i had a smooth easy leveling experience with Rapid Smiting, GC and Onehanded swords.
But i can see the RG skills are mostly spear related, do i have to go back and redo all my skills for wielding spears? Or do some RG use one handed swords?
I have been reading a fair bit, but i want to make sure

I like it alot, i wont be able to get much taking out 10 points for spear mastery, what is best way around it

Masteries don't help that much so you can do without them. But spear mastery 10 is pre-req for spear quicken, which is a must (get at least level 2, level 1 is way too short).

Heal is pretty useless; your SP pool is too low, you're not FS, and you won't have enough SP leftover to do anything offensively.

Rapid Smiting gets completely trumped by third class skills in pretty much all situations.

Renewal has pretty different mechanics now. I suggest you go with a "mainstream" build, learn how everything works and learn the basics, then maybe you can consider "dedicating" a build to a nostalgic pre-renewal build (on a second character or alt, or when resetting and playing around with your build at a high level).

Hello. 

Nothing wrong for an RG to use one hand sword if  he interest more to shield defending/support build. But if you want to try the skill overbrand,vp,moonslasher, those are spear need attacks and need you have to focus on agi/str rather int. Seems to me your stats is quite fine now. 

 

The skills that your using aren't efficient for team play/leveling purpose especially gramps low ti. My suggestions that you get cure lvl1, sacri lvl3, spear mastery/quick. lvl10, cava lvl5, and defending aura 5 for paladin skill tree. As a RG you should get vanguard force, prestige, shield spell, banding, exceed break, overbrand.

I think they should allow due wielding shield RG. I find it extremely hilarious when I play due wielding shield Nord in TESV

Hahaha dual weilding shields is the dream, :3 calculate skills attack on combined weight and def <3 who needs a weapon lol.

yeah, what i did was, take advantage of the Free skill reset 99 or under. At level 99 /14 RG, i reset my skills several times and trialed a bunch of different skills.

The shield skills were interesting, but not fufilling (Especially when i was in the middle of my bounty boards, and bwing to the smith to repair my shield).

The spear skills Especially Overbrand does more damage than rapid smiting, casts faster, and is aoe with pushback so RS is now off the table.

Kings Grace is more than sufficient at replacing heal, its pretty much heal that scales off vit instead of INT, and i want to buy a Brionac ( Inbox me your price if anybody has one for sale).

After my trialing this is where i landed
- 10 SMast 10 HPrec 10 Bash / 5 prov 5 endure 9 magnum
- 10 faith 9 HC 5 GC 5 Guard 3 smite 3 boomerang 5 reflect 3 Sacrifice 10 SMast 10 SQuicken 1 peco 5 cav
- Corresponding skills to Overbrand - 5 Over brand to be continued as i level.

lol dual wielding shield? I never thought about that when I played skyrim. I'm guessing you are bashing them to death with your shield?

 

I think I saw an RG with chatbox wanting to buy brionac in geffen. Is that you?

Haha yeah thats me, i have the worst luck in market, up until a couple weeks ago there were all the brionacs going for 4-6m in ragial history even as low as 3m.. now for no reason, the only people selling them are vending at 20m.. 5x previous price, a couple came up for sale at regular price but sold.. not sure if the 20mill ones are actually just inflated resales of the regular priced ones?  U_U Artificial inflation at the cost of my convenience

190+ ASPD Smitting = Viable

Only major issue im having with Over Brand now is, if i try to move and get hit during movement, i experience terrible position lag, i appear to be somewhere im not, and monsters appear to be next to me despite being somwhere else.. and since over brand is a Cast on cell skill once all the monsters and me in the game have the wrong position, i end up casting on their visual position and hitting nothing because they are actually 3 squares away or something, result in a miss or only partial damage.

Yes, Endure+Magnum Break can help. Later on, you should get a second AoE like Moon Slasher to help you in such situations.

yeah lol, also ITT How bad is renewal endure! it used to be such a good skill, now its a faded shadow of its former glory, if theres a couple of monster with reasonable ASPD it goes down so fast, 7 hits makes it feel so negligible, nearly completely useless around red and yellow novus, Gravity plz.

You'll learn soon enough with enough practice with Overbrand. Watch some youtube videos of people using it if you think that would help. Using magnum break to knock away monsters reliably and repositioning yourself might help a little bit. King's Grace might sort of help with that too but I can't speak from personal experience for that (it also uses some skill points). Just using Endure as mentioned above is actually enough most of the time if you know when to use it, the timing, practice, whatever. Fly wing away if it's really too uncontrollable; you'll find another mob easily.

I hope you aren't planning to heal yourself using a Brionac. RGs just don't have the SP pool for that kind of thing. A witch hat, snowier accessories, or other cheap healing methods really are a must, and they'll carry over to other classes too.

I believe the most reliable technique I use is drag a mob up to you when YOU are hugging the wall, then Overbrand to fling the mobs back away from you, then run forward away from the wall and the mobs should now be in perfect position to be Overbranded to hit the wall for the 3rd impact damage. I use magnum break sometimes just or that 10 seconds worth of ATK increase rarely.
