Proposal: Ladder WOE

Idea: Create a fresh new server, run a clean WOE for 1 year, then merge server into chaos after 1 year. Then start a new server for a new ladder season.

Each ladder season would run for 1 year (52 weeks), at the end of the season we could give out an rwc type prize to the top guild of the year. We could track this through choobs with the prizes given to the guild who held the most castles or who held the longest, etc. We could also have a second, and third place prize as well.

PROS:

-Everyone starts at ground zero, so new and old guilds all have an equal chance at winning at woe.

-The lack of pre-made gods, pre-found mvps, and years worth of stored consumables, would create more balance at the start, but as the season goes on, the better active guilds will emerge with the first gods made or mvps found and more consumables made/stored. This would also force people not to play just on woe days, but play within the servers pvm environment as well, to form mvp party hunts and consumable forage parties.

-New guilds get a chance to see what it is like to run a real woe guild, and how tough it can be and rewarding as well, since they won't be stomped as easily at the start.

-Older guilds will still be incentivized to play due to the knowledge that nothing is lost, and everything worked on throughout the ladder season will be merged into chaos. As well as the fact that a rwc type prize could be rewarded to the top guilds.

CONS:

-Cash shop consumables, need to be held in check, especially at the start.

-Not sure how feasible it would be to do a server merge once a year lol.

-Needs a healthy population to play. It can not turn into a situation where a couple guilds turn it into a farming server.

-Could hurt chaos population.

Thoughts:

~Idea popped into my head after thinking about some of our recent merger happenings, and it not being that bad plus diablo 2 ladder system where after each season, all the stuff you worked on gets merged into the general populace.

~I have never woe before lol, but after reading some posts by new people who want to start a new guild, it can be daunting to woe, when the general advice to compete is to "get good" and to train and put the time in. Unfortunately no matter how much time one trains, they may never achieve the results of an established guild, since they can not make up that time gap ever because established guilds don't sit on their bums waiting for new guilds to get good, they also continue to train(hunt mvps, store more consumables, etc).

~Since i have never woe before, and my knowledge comes purely from reading the forums all day, obviously my idea or thoughts may not be correct, so this proposal could be tweaked to whatever is necessary if warpportal would adopt the idea of a new woe server.

wait, what recent merger happenings weren't that bad? everything I've heard about the seaRO2 merge was bad, and the Thor migration is still limping along. we're not even at the merge state yet.

I think this should be USRC-style, where everyone has access to the same gears, no cash shop. determined by pure skill (theoretically). it's a standalone thing, no merge or anything like that. if anything award the players' chaos/thor account with the prizes (obviously lots of checks need to be in place to make sure people don't take advantage of system).

I meant our own merger, valk/ymir/ygg, wasn't that bad.

This merger was terrible and is like an arrow stuck in the knee of iRO

It was just a thought, i'm originally from valk, and for me the merger wasn't that bad, other than the inconviences of some merged storages, recreating a guild, and some name changes, i don't remember any big issues such as disconnects, damaged instances, and messed up quests.

The idea is similar to usrc, but i thought if there was a longer time investment and a clear end goal, that people maybe more interested in woe. Idea could be tweaked to a shorter server time that gets wiped at the end instead of merged, but as soon as people hear the word wiped they feel like their time is wasted, at least for the casual gamer.

it's not wasted if they get rewards on their actual accounts. this should be a self-contained environment so you can avoid the disasters that occurred in past USRCs when they were held on the normal servers.

and btw, if people start playing in this new server, wont the same people stop playing in the old server? :x
i mean, it take some kind of commitment to play and farm all the thing that you need in woe.

My thoughts exactly. Those servers would be left with vendors and bots. Isn't it normal to want the idea of starting out fresh or at least, trying it?

not if it's a woe only server. you can't do anything else outside of woe.

^ so pk map all over the server + no gear and card drop? Yes please.
If card(s) do drop in the new server, meh. I dont really like it. This new server basically double the spawn rate of any mvps or any rewards you can get from instances. Just speed up the end of iRo.

btw, i wonder how woe will be if everyone is using npc gears and no cards :3

it doesn't need to be like an eden gear-only type of woe, just that the same gear is available to everyone. WoE's not going to be fun if you can just turn everyone into a popsicle because they don't have unfrozens.

There shouldn't be any reason to hunt on this server since the rewards for excelling are realized on your main server. only the various WoE maps should be available to reduce server stress, and the pvp areas so people can train during non-WoE times.

people would have access to max level chars (or 99s if WoE TE exists here)

^ this is actually ... quite neat.  But some people do play iro only for woe. So yeah. We might see a slight decrease in number of players during normal days. But it isnt really a problem.

The merger killed valk server, which had a very healthy woe population. Nowadays woe population is diseased with the sickness ymir brought to the merger.

You guys all know better than i would, since i have never woe before. I can see all the issues and problems that the original idea had.

I thought one of the main problems of woe was that it stagnates over time, but if we were to incorporate some sort of seasonal ladder system, woe would constantly stay fresh. I still think it would be a neat idea if it were possible to incorporate reasonably.
