I have a level 95 Alchemist.  My stats are as follows before buffs:

 

Str: 52+10

Agi: 85+5

Vit 50+5

Dex: 65+11

 

Rest: 1

 

I also have every Elemental Two-Handed Axe, +7 Peco Chain Mail, +7 Whisper Manteau, +7 Verit Boots, 2x Mantis Cat Hand Glove

 

So my gear, whereas not the absolute best, is not that bad.

 

I am finding it impossible to level this character on any reasonably leveled mobs.  Desert Wolves, Hill Winds, and Magmarings all have way too much health and hit rate, and I had to get a lot of Dex to be able to hit them consistently.  Even with the proper Elemental Axe, it still takes me about 20-25 hits (~400 damage each hit) to kill one mob.  In this time, it costs me anywhere from 5 to 15 White Pots to sustain their damage.

 

Is this just how it's going to be going from 95-99 in a reasonable time, or is there something easier to kill which gives decent Exp?

Killing lower level things like Stapos.  Mostly Stapos.  lol

Yes, and it's AoE as well...but it's so damn weak.

Cart revo does decent damage. just put junks or whatever in your cart. the heavier the better. it should do around 800 to 1500 (possibly more) damage on average each hit. 

 

take the 91-99 eden board quests  (assuming this is renewal) I personally take rachels, glast heims, turtle island, evil nymph. deviruchi and disguise. easy to hunt and easy to finish then turn in with bmx3 on.

 

for equips I suggest you get a garment with raydric card. a nagan sword, attack isnt that great but it procs double attack. this is for low budget. if zeny isnt a thing then i have a completely different set of equips to suggest.

There are 91+ Eden Quests?  I thought it ended at 86.

 

Also, money is a semi-issue.  I have around 200mil spread across my characters.

I found AGI completely useless, didn't need it at all. Just a cart revolution, elemental mace, +9 hbp and my Homu. I did it most against roweens and stapos.

 

The Eden bard quest for 86-90 and 91-99 are on 2nd floor, right on top of the stairs.

You could also do gramps TI and be a healer with white potions

Having the AGI for ASPD and the Flee made leveling to 86 incredibly simple and cheap.  I was also AFK leveling my Homunculus a bit, the AGI helped for that too.

 

I was under the impression that Cart Revo was unaffected by STR and Weapon bonuses, but was entirely based upon the weight of the cart while having a small base damage amount...but that could be different Post-Renewal (I haven't looked at Merchants in years.)

i had 1 agi pt form lv1 novice to lv150 gene.

 

if i need to escape i just flywing.

 

imo agi is absolute pointless stat for merchant class.

AOE leveling is the way to go, especially for 95-99. Otherwise, just join (leech) a TI party; homun party is possible of course for alchemists.

Some general rules of AOE leveling:

1) use reduction gears (flee gears are useless in mobs)
2) use some sort of cheap healing (WPH + alarm mask, or double snowiers)
3) use a shield if possible

A one handed sword actually does about the same damage on medium monsters as a two handed axe because of the 75% penalty of an axe. So your damage would be about the same if you use a sword, and you can also use a shield at the same time which helps a lot.

I like the idea / logic of sword & sheild over 2h axe in certain situations.
