Problem being, I wont know if the abilities are Shadow or something else.
Or are they always pre-fixed with "dark" ? 

Oh and probably as important - is there anywhere I'm going to be much weaker?

all the information is out there for you, you just gotta do a little bit of legwork. referencing the link from hotel you can see that the only place you would be taking extra damage as shadow would be from the holy element, although ghost does 5% more damage to shadow vs. if you were just neutral element (h/t to Ren for pointing that out).

basically using shadow armor will not hurt you except when facing monsters that perform holy attacks (e.g. holy light). however you may find it beneficial to use other elemental armors depending on the situation. for example if you're fighting Katherine keyron or mistress, you will need a wind armor or you will get one shot by JT. against drake an aqua armor alone might not even save you vs. his waterball, it hits that hard.

Oh on a side not I smashed through some mid TI tonight with EDP and think I may have made a profit selling the loot via my merchant (over charge level 8), excluding the crafting materials!

Glad to hear that u solo it. When I see a GX in a mid ti party and I am able yo solo it. I say to myself, what a waste of time.

Okay, new TI new armor needed. Just to check:

 

Mid = Anolian & Hellhound - Anolian has water attack, hell hound has no elemental attack. So a Water armor would be best here? What card is that?

 

Upper = Angra Mantis & Antler Scaraba - Mantis has no elemental attack, I can't find out for Antler what element "Splash Attack" is so have no idea what armor would be best here?

angra mantis has earth attack, although you should be more worried about their SB.

You don't need a new armor for every TI, just saying. Using a good, general-purpose armor is all you need at this point in the game assuming that you can already solo mid TI.

I agree, I typically default to a wildcat nab's cloth or a pecopeco carded kandura when for my 'all purpose' armor and only use elemental armor when it's a major improvement. Typically, if you're using EDP + leech gear, you won't care if an enemy hits you for 3k instead of 2k since you'll leech that much back in a jiffy. If you find yourself constantly on the edge, of course, then considering beefing up your resistances.

I gather it's a good idea to build up a collection of elemental armor anyway though?

Of course. If you plan to take on most MVPs, elemental redux are a must. But at this point in time where you are still leveling, not so much unless you are hunting specialized mobs. I'd get 90 vit + general purpose armor (personally, I use FS nabs with porcellio) for survivability and focus on wrecking faces with a good weapon.

Since mid TI seems really poorly this week, I just tried abyss 3.

 

Oh dear! Even with EDP up I simply couldn't out leech the damage I was receiving and ended up dieing - what gives?

 

Anywhere else suggested at 125?

You could try discastes field BBs.With the 2x EXP event + BM3 u`ll be in range of high TI pretty fast.

Keep ur eye open to your HIT rate, else you wont solo easily the current high TI.

you should really look into investing in a +9 rwh to help with hp leeching. otherwise you must bring pots when leveling.

The Bounty boards for Dicastes all seemed to be in Saraba when I looked, am I looking in the wrong place?

The problem is, when I was looking for a helm everybody had a different opinion on RWH or Vanargand. In the end I went for Vanargand and now I'm stuck with it!

well a +9 vana helm and your 3x hf jur is fine too. it just can't be a +0 vana helm. I used +9 vana and 3x hf jur through level 150; that was before thanatos katar was in game. once that came in, I swapped to +9 rwh and +9 1x hf thana katar and have no issues either.

the scaraba bounty boards are located in el dicastes. I recommend you complete the following quest to get an accessory that teleports you there.

I definitely can't solo upper TI yet and there is no-one there to party. I'll maybe try BB for a bit like suggested.

Right, I definitely can't do the dicastes field either. Those dolomite spiders are intolerable - they just cut me down in seconds. Especially if they've webbed me to the floor and range attack me!

 

I also can't really do abyss lake, even with a +7 Thanatos and EDP. I just get flattened super quick.

 

I'm really struggling with where to go at 126 now?

I can't even do the entry quest!

 

The bit that involves talking to the cat one map south of el dicastes - the area is swamped with those spiders. I've died three times trying to talk to the cat haha
