I have a +5 headgear that I really want to reset it to +0...

There is no way do degrade sadly. The only thing you could do is +7 it, then use HD ores to degrade it to +3.

why would you want to reset it to +0

for me, it's cause it looks ugly. I have some +4 headgears I'd rather have at +0 (+4 crown of mistress? gross gtfo).

for non-cosmetic reasons it could be stuff like an upgraded non-enhanced variant shoe OP might have gotten at a discount or something, or another piece of equipment that gives better effects if refine rate is lower (like gold acidus for example).

That's weird to me, but everyone has their own preferences.

 

For me, I prefer to see +4 items than not upgraded; and I prefer to see even upgrades than odd ones. I'd rather see a +8 than a +7, I'd rather see a +12 than a +11, etc.

 

I'm actually a little OCD about even numbers. I pick even numbered things from vending machines and I always set my TV volume to an even number.

haha. I'd just use the energy crystal NPC to  turn those into enhanced variants =/ They're better at +0 enhanced variant than they are at +9 regular variant.

whenever possible I always eat an even number of things (like chips or cookies).

I agree with Necrohealiac, I prefer to have either a good refine (at least +7) or just keep it at +0.
