idk if there's a thread like this (if there is i don't wanna necro -- i think its against rulez)

anyway, as gamers some of us usually play the whole day and barely do anything aside from usual necessities so i decided to make this thread.

i hope people can share some diet/tips/ workout challenges here as well ^^

I walk about 15 ~ 30mins a day, will sometimes do some core exercises (can't atm because of my heart though), just some pretty simple stuff will help. It all comes down to your metabolism though, the better it is the less you gotta worry about what you eat ;D

My metabolism is too good because I do kung fu. << Kind of bad since I don't have much of an appetite nowadays so I metabolize the heck out of every little bit of food I can force myself to eat and barely gain any weight. I've been trying to gain some weight in the past several years with little success. :<

Doing crossfit at a local gym, which can be grueling but it's nice to have a more structured work-out experience. Pricey though. Generally trying to get away from lots of white rice, replacing with brown rice or broccoli/cauliflower. Paleo-ish diet (cut out starches, carbs and processed foods) would be great since it forces your body to use the built up fat but doesn't starve you-starvation diets are said to get the body to try to cannibalize your existing muscle too. The problem is that it usually requires a lot of pre-prep.

Being a guy helps with keeping thin. The sheer fact I have testosterone promotes muscle growth and fat burning. I feel there are 3 secrets to staying healthy. 1. Eating. 2. Sleeping. 3. Moving. Too many people forget to do a combination of these and begin to put on weight. You should eat, this signals to the body that their is plentiful food sources so it does not need to store fat. Sleeping 8+ hours a day also helps the body not store fat. When you sleep less, the body tends to think it may require more energy through out the day which is stored in fat. Finally moving is always important.

I hit the gym after work 3 times a week; I really want to try doing it in the morning but it's just too damn early...

I think exercise in the morning is more beneficial. It wakes you up and keeps you alert for work. It also shifts your body's mindset from rest to active. This is why in a lot of successful K-12 education systems, the day starts with exercise. Exercising at night may make it harder to get to sleep. There is no evidence that the time you exercise dictates how your body burns calories.

I actually find exercising at night helps me sleep as much as in the morning keeps me alert and awake. Burns my energy at night which would otherwise keep me awake and thinking haha.

^actually been doing that on stressful nights. dancing weirdly in my room haha with that music. :P

i'm starting to think of making a fitness challenge for ppl here. starting RO1.  (especially those who just hang out in game even if they're chatting to no one and watching people pass by) e.g.: do 5 squats when someone crafts potion near you. something like that. :heh:

anyway i'll try mornings. :o i do agree it wakes me up but sometimes its beneficial at night too, considering i'm a night owl -- tires me up eventually XD

Below is sampling of health related articles about sitting. Apparently, its as bad as for you as smoking crack laced with plutonium and there's nothing you can do to reverse the effects.:

My observation has always been that, unless your conditioning yourself (i.e. martial arts), exercise is a waste of energy. I recommend learning a craft trade and performing manual labor. Among other things, I'm a carpenter and blacksmith--I get a physical and bloodwork done annually at the request of my employer and everything always checks out. Of course, diet, environment, and genetics is always a factor too.

Good thing I prefer manual labor jobs over desk jobs.

The takeaway is, even if you don't work a desk job, PC gaming is going to kill you. The solution is to build a custom arcade cabinet so you don't have to sit.

I make hand tools, knives, cookware, & decorative objects. I volunteer at an 1880's shop at a historical park and I have a small shop at my house.

Any plans to level up your blacksmithing?

Yeah, I've been watching Man at Arms for a while. A good 10" Bowie knife takes 60+ hours forging everything by hand. I probably wouldn't try a sword unless I got a power hammer or a couple of people to strike for me. I have plans for a set-up to make mail. If I can find a blowhorn stake, I'll probably try some plate. When I retire years from now, I'd like to stay busy making re-enactment props, cosplay, & LARP stuff.

When I'm a little more proficient, I'll probably apply for my ABS certification: http://www.americanbladesmith.com/
