alright so I have everything installed properly and patched. after i patch right before I start it gives me the options to select screen dimensions and graphics. when i put it in full screen everything is completely blank no matter what graphics I use, but if I use Direct3d HAL or something not in fullscreen it works. is there a way to get back to these options without reinstalling everything? I read somewhere you can edit the graphics and dimensions in setup.exe or something but i searched the C: drive for my RO installer and didnt find one in the files. any clue on how to do this without completely reinstalling so i can tinker around with it? thanks :)

Firstly, just to confirm, are you running the RO client under CrossOver/Wine?

Secondly, do you mean that the list of video devices is cleared when you enable the full-screen option, or that you're simply unable to run the client in full-screen mode?

Hello,

I have recently followed numerous instructions and have gotten it to the point where you see in the following screenshots.

However, when I go to launch the game (click START)...nothing happens. Nothing opens up and just sits on the Crossover window.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

  • Crossover Version 14.0 (14.0.0.28428
  • MacBook Pro
  • Software  OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)

Does the problem occur while using CrossOver 13.2.0? If not, then the cause of the problem is probably a bug that was introduced in CrossOver 14 that causes the RO client to freeze when it's opened (before its window is displayed). I reported this bug to CodeWeavers during the beta testing period, but it unfortunately hasn't yet been fixed.

If you haven't restarted your Mac since the client froze, then you should forcefully terminate the client to prevent it prevent it from wasting CPU cycles. To do so, enter the following command in Terminal:

killall -KILL wineloader

Be warned that entering this command will terminate all currently open Windows applications running under CrossOver.

Regarding the tiny window: see the third note in the Installation: Installing the client section of the guide.

Regarding the crash: is the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable installed in the bottle that contains your RO client installation? You can determine whether it is from the Manage bottles window, which can be opened by choosing ConfigureManage bottles… from the menu bar.

Ok progress again, Thanks so much!

I now have a game window that looks normal sized (totally grey, no graphics) although it keeps spitting out the error I have in the last post.

Visual C++ 2008 (9.0) Redistributable is listed under Installed Applications within Crossover.

So, I've been having a problem with iRO since I updated Crossover to 14.0. After I log in and what not, I select my character and when the screen loads I get a string of Error messages and Sprite Error messages, and the view is restricted. I can only zoom in an out about 4 scrolls (both up and down, not sure how else to measure it, lol). And the rotation to change the angle of viewing is extremely small. I'm not sure what to do.

What I have tried so far:
     - Restarting Crossover after it happens
     - Deleting and then Re-Installing Ragnärok online
     - Using the "Repair" option when running the Uninstall client in the C: Drive
     - Downloading the Patchup.exe and running it
     - Using the Setup.exe and changing the graphics option
     - Using the "Legacy X" option for the "Ragnarok Online" bottle (and repeating some of the above steps)
     - Following other instructions on the "Common problems and their solutions" in the Guide
     - Installed other graphics software (MS Vis C++ 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013)

Misc. Information
     - MacBook Pro (Late 2011)
     - OS X Yosemite Version 10.10
     - 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor
     - Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
     - Ragnärok Online (iRO) has worked before on my Mac with the previous version of Crossover 13.x

I would add screenshots, but I have no idea how (sat here for about 30 minutes trying to figure it out  :p_laugh: ) so if someone would be so kind as to help me out, I'll get the images uploaded ASAP to clarify what it is exactly that the error messages are saying.

I suspect the cause of your problem is a bug in CrossOver 14.0.0. Unfortunately, CrossOver 14.0.0 contains several serious bugs and I therefore don't recommend using it. These bugs will hopefully be fixed in the next version of CrossOver.

Test whether the problem occurs while using CrossOver 13.2.0. I recommend that you reinstall the RO client into a new bottle after downgrading CrossOver because you've made so many changes to your existing bottle.

Edit: CrossOver 14.0.1 has been released, which resolves all of the bugs that I know were introduced in 14.0.0.

I don't think it's necessary for you to upload any screen captures of the errors because they're unlikely to contain any useful information; however, for future reference, you can include an image in a post by doing the following:
  • Upload the image to Imgur.
  • Copy the contents of the BBCode field to the clipboard.
  • Paste the copied text into your post.

Hmm… your version of the file is identical to mine.

What happened actually?

You created an MD5 hash of the file cps.dll, which is the library causing the error.

Does the error occur when you attempt to run the Renewal or Classic client?

Which version of OS X are you using?

By the way, I have to leave soon, so I probably won't be able to reply until later.

Classic client. OS X 10.7.5.

I've been playing for months. It seems fine.

I don't know why, when i turn on the mac and tried to open the client it can't load. :o

Okay, sure. No problem about it.

I can't reproduce the error on my Mac, on which I have OS X 10.10.1 (beta) and WS9Wine 1.7.29 installed.

Try reinstalling the client into a new wrapper using the latest version of the installer.

Hey Axylus, I'm in need of some assistance.

I've been using RO on crossover somewhat reliably for the past few years, but recently since my laptop was fixed in June I've noticed that since I re-downloaded crossover and reinstalled RO, most of the time the patch client doesn't even connect. It won't even try to patch and then say that it's failed, as soon as the patcher opens up when crossover opens it opens directly to "Failed to connect to patch server." I usually have to wait a bit and quit crossover and when it's in a good mood it'll allow me to patch, but it's a huge inconvenience and a hindrance to not be able to open the game at all when I want to or need to. Any ideas?

Also, I've reinstalled crossover/reinstalled RO multiple times to no effect.

The cause of this problem is actually Gravity's misconfigured DNS servers. As you can see by the last thread I posted in, it also affects Windows users. :)

You can work around the problem by doing the following:

Note: The following procedure must be performed on an OS X user account that has administrative privileges.

Warning: Don't modify any of the existing lines in the file /private/etc/hosts.
  • Open Terminal.
  • Enter "sudo nano -Sw /private/etc/hosts".
  • Enter your OS X user account password if you're prompted to.
  • Press control-W and then control-V to move the cursor to the end of the file.
  • Append the following lines to the file:

    128.241.93.60 playragnarok.com
    128.241.93.38 patch1.playragnarok.com
    128.241.93.38 patch2.playragnarok.com
  • Press control-X, Y, and then return. (Don't press control-Y.)

It worked immediately, thank you so much!!!! That's been the most absolutely annoying part about playing this game for me recently and I'm so glad I don't have to worry about it anymore. You're a life saver. -hugs- :)

Hey Axylus,

Have you tried CrossOver+RO on the new OS X Yosemite? I don't know if I should upgrade it to that OS from the stock OS Mountain Lion because I'm afraid that it might mess things up.

I have OS X Yosemite installed on my MacBook Pro and the RO client runs well on it. If I discover that a serious bug that affects the RO client has been introduced in a new version of CrossOver, which has happened on a few occasions in the past, then I add a warning that advises people not to upgrade to that version to both my guide and the first post of this thread. I'm usually aware of all of such bugs in CrossOver because I'm a CrossOver beta tester.

You should be aware that only CrossOver 14.0.0 and later is compatible with OS X Yosemite. You can update CrossOver to its latest version by choosing Check for updates… from its application menu.

I'd definitely recommend upgrading to OS X Yosemite because it has many great features; however, as a precaution, you should create a backup your data using Time Machine before you upgrade. :)

Hey there!

First off, thank you a tons for this forum. I went through a ton of pages and answered most of my questions! I am using Wine right now with no problems thus far. I just have one question, sense I'm using a mac how do I use the abilities and short cut commands like opening my items? Using the (alt) option key plus (example) Q doesn't seem to work. Much thanks again!

If you're using the Mac Driver, which I strongly recommend that you do, then you must use the command key as a substitute for the alt key; it's unfortunately impossible to use the option key as a substitute for the alt key when using Mac Driver.
