Hi, after the "rushed edition", I thought that making a real updated and prettier guide would be a good idea. Note that this guide is only for mage and wizard as the build (mostly the skills) change a lot when going to High Wizard / Warlock.

So, why choosing wizard over sage? Well, it's a powerful class in which you won't get bored playing with. Basically, you have a high input (low hp) and output damage (Area of Effect spells => AoE) and that makes the class challenging and fun! Also, I personally like to hunt down stuff while I level in different places. In that way, wizards are the most versatile class IMO (in my opinion) except for Soul Linkers / Star Gladiators and their skill Mild Wind. Last but not least, you will rarely always use the same skill over and over when you are soloing which, again, makes it more fun than some other class (cough-cough *double strafing archer/hunter/bard* cough-cough).

You should know though that there is actually a general agreement among players that Sorcerers are more useful than Warlocks (and this, as I understood it from several posts, is aiming more WoE (War of Emperium than PvM (Player vs Monster)). Also, there are many updates concerning renewal and class balancing that are coming though, so you shouldn't worry about this too much.

II. Stat point allocation
<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>

If you are a newcomer, that means having a good casting time will be harder as obtaining good equipments will be harder (money wise). In that way, I would recommend to fully increase int first; so, 99 int first. Then, about 50 dex: not more since it doesn't have such an impact on cast time anymore (compared to pre-renewal). Here is the actual formula:

castTime = (1 - SQRT((DEX * 2 + INT) / 530)) * (1 - sum_castReduction/100%) * baseCast * 0.8 + (1 - max_fixedReduction/100%) * baseCast * 0.2

baseCast = base cast-time of a skill
sum_castReduction = Sum of reduction for variable casttime (like Suffragium, Magic Strings, Isilla Card effect or Kathryne Keyron Card)
max_fixedReductrion = Highest reduction modifier of fixed casttime (for example if both Sacrament(50%) and Radius(20%) are active only Sacrament will work)

Cast-time formula from here: http://irowiki.org/w..._time#Cast_Time

As you can see from the formula, the dex only affect 80% of the cast. This is called the variable cast-time. The other 20% is called the fixed cast-time.

It's still 80% isn't? So, why shouldn't we put more than 50 dex (you could even put less)? Let's make an example at 30, 50, 75 and 99 dex. If job level is 50, than there is a +12 int job bonus and +6 dex job bonus.

At 30 dex, let's take a spell which has, for instance, 5 sec of baseCast: castTime = (1 - SQRT((36*2 + 111) / 530)) * (1 - 0/100%) * 5 * 0.8 + (1 - 0/100%) * 5 * 0.2 = 2.65 seconds

That makes a reduction of 1- (2.65/5) = 47% cast reduction

At 50 dex, with the same conditions, castTime = 2.41 seconds; 52% cast reduction
At 75 dex, with the same conditions, castTime = 2,13 seconds; 57% cast reduction
At 99 dex, with the same conditions, castTime = 1,89 seconds; 62% cast reduction

Just for fun, let's see with 0 dex: castTime = 3,06 seconds; 39% cast reduction.

N.B.: It should be noted that NOT all spells are 80% variable and 20% fixed (or so I heard...)! Also, the above results are purely based on the stats points (no equipments) parts.

You can see that dex is not so important anymore in renewal for wizards. Still, it reduces the cast a little bit and also improves MAtk. Which leads me to a MAtk comparison between stats:

1 point in int = +1.5 MAtk
1 point in dex = + 0.2 MAtk
1 point in luk = + 0.33 MAtk

Let's stick with 50 dex and put 30 luck. If you have sometime problem with weight capacity, I'd put 10-20 Str as each point increases it by 30. Don't put any points here if you don't need to. I'd put the rest in vit to add up defence, magic defence and health.

To sum up, at level 99, you are supposed to have a total of 1225 stat points. 99 int represents 628 points. 50 dex represents 194 points, 30 luk represents 86 points and 10 str represents 18 points.

There's a total left of 1225 - 628 - 194 - 86 - 18 = 299 points

294 points represents 64 vit points. 5 points remaining wherever you want.

Read more about stats here: http://irowiki.org/wiki/Stats

III. Skills
<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>

Now there are two possible situations for skills.

1- You are a newcomer and don't have any zenys (money):

Then, you won't be able to play with safety wall since it costs one blue gemstone for each cast. Here is a build more suitable for you: http://irowiki.org/~...KnndodqabcKHxgK

a. First 3 skill points => Cold Bolt (first eden quest; explained a bit under)
b. 10 next points => Fire Bolt
c. Next point in sight (prerequisite)
d. 5 next points => Fireball
e. 10 next points => Fire Wall (FW)
f. 5 next points => Increase SP Recovery
g. 7 next points => Cold Bolt
h. 4 next points => Lightning Bolt (needed for wizard skills)
i. 5 next points (one in each) => Stone Curse, Frost Diver, Thunder Storm and Napalm Beat (needed for wizard skills)

Note: Make sure to not put any more points in lightning bolt as there is a more powerful non-AoE lightning skill as a wizard called jupitel thunder!!!

i. 3 next points => Jupitel Thunder (JT)
j. Next point => Storm Gust (SG)
k. 7 next points => Jupitel Thunder
l. 3 next points => Earth Spike
m. Next point => Heaven's Drive
n. 3 next points => Quagmire
o. 9 next points => Storm Gust
p. 2 next points => Sightrasher
q. 10 next points => Meteor Storm (MS)
r. 10 next points => Lord of Vermillion (LoV)

All that is great, but where do I do my leveling? Well, since you are a newcomer, I'll explain some few key items which you got at the training ground.

Novice Potion: Heals 22 to 33 hp
Novice Fly Wing: Teleports the user to another random spot on the map
Novice Butterfly Wing: Teleports the user to their save point

You will run out of these items quickly enough. Before that happens, make sure to get the loot on the ground when you kill the mobs. That way, you will be able to buy some Fly Wings and Butterfly Wings (same effect as novices' one), but you should note that the later is not necessary.

Why am I explaining all this while the question was clearly where to level? Well, the Eden Group quests will help you get some novice pots. Here is a little quick guide to exp until job level 50 (and DO NOT stop at level 40 as it is quite essential to get all those job points):

Level 1-12: STAY at the training ground because you need to be level 12 to take on your first equipment quest.
Level 12: http://irowiki.org/wiki/Eden_Group
  • Everything is well explained here. You will obtain your first equipments and should get some base/job levels. Also, this first quest may be a little bit of a bother since scorpions and baby desert wolf are fire element. You should be fine with level 3 cold bolt though.
Level 12-18: After you've got your first piece of equipments, just do the eden quests. Note that Rocker, Wormtail, and muka are vulnerable to fire element.
Level 18-26: Since, you should be getting Fire Bolt maxed-out, ant hell dungeon (one map down and left of morroc; north-east corner) can be a nice place to level since monsters there are vulnerable to fire (andre, piere, deniro, vitata). Be careful though, if you hit one andre, all the other Andres on the screen will come and attack you. The same applies for piere and deniro.
Level 26: http://irowiki.org/wiki/Eden_Group
  • Again, just follow the steps explained on the website.
Level 26-40: Do any eden-quests you like as they all give novice potions. You should note the monsters that are vulnerable to fire are: Smokie, Coco, Skeleton, Bigfoot, Deniro/Piere/Andre and Martin. If you don't need potions, you could also have the option to kill ant eggs in ant hell if there are no alchemist bots there.
Level 40: http://irowiki.org/wiki/Eden_Group
  • Again, just follow the steps explained on the website. Congrats, you are now full-equip until level 99.
Level 40-wizard: Now, until you get level 1 storm gust and about level 5 jupitel thunder, there are many options. I'm not sure what the quicker way to level is though. You won't get any more potions from the eden group, but you should probably stick with the quests.
  • I'm opened for suggestions from players here.
Wizard-level 71: Go wherever you want (eden quests if you want too), except places where mobs are of water-type. Just use Storm Gust level 1 to freeze enemies and Jupitel Thunder to kill them. Complement with Fire Wall and quagmire if necessary.
  • All monsters you hunt down should be within this range:
- Minimum: your level -5
- Maximum: your level +15
- The best: your level +10

Knowing that and assuming you're a wizard by level 60, here is a list of monsters between level 70 and 81:
http://db.irowiki.or...ader=10#results
  • Clocks are great at level 71
Level 71-86: Eden quests of this branch are really the best. You get a whole bunch of exp by completing them. If you want to unlock moscovia dungeon and amatsu dungeon, but make the leveling process a bit slower, than do the Island district quest. If not, then I'd say the best quest among them is the Clock Tower district one: it's easy to access and the mobs are quite easy to kill. Careful of the Rideword though.

*Note that if you have a choice, taking monsters which are slower is ideal for leveling as you have the time to cast before they get past your firewall and get to you.

2- You are a newcomer to the mage-wizard branch, but you do have some money:

Then, you will be able to play with safety wall even though it costs one blue gemstone for each cast (456 zenys each with a merchant and 600 zenys without). People may disagree, but Safety Wall is way better than Firewall IMO. Safety Wall build: http://irowiki.org/~...enoXfNdn1cKGKhX

a. First 4 points => Napalm Beat
b. 10 next points => Soul Strike (SS)
c. 4 next points => Increase SP Recovery
d. 3 next points => Napalm Beat
e. 10 next points => Safety Wall (SW)
f. 8 next points => Fire Bolt
g. 5 next points => Cold Bolt
h. 4 next points => Lightning Bolt (needed for wizard skills)
i. 3 next points (one in each) => Frost Diver, Thunder Storm and Sight (needed for wizard skills)

Note: Make sure to not put any more points in lightning bolt as there is a more powerful non-AoE lightning skill as a wizard called jupitel thunder!!!

j. 3 next points => Jupitel Thunder (JT)
k. Next point => Storm Gust (SG)
l. 7 next points => Jupitel Thunder
m. 9 next points => Storm Gust
n. 2 next points => Sightrasher
o. 10 next points => Meteor Storm (MS)
p. 10 next points => Lord of Vermillion (LoV)
q. 5 next points => Water Ball

All that is great, but where do I do my leveling? With Soul Strike, it's really easy. Fast cast and good damage, better to use against undead enemies.

Level 1-12: STAY at the training ground because you need to be level 12 to take on your first equipment quest.
Level 12: http://irowiki.org/wiki/Eden_Group
  • Everything is well explained here. You will obtain your first equipments and should get some base/job levels. Just use soul strike!
Level 12-26: After you've got your first piece of equipments, I'd recommend going to Payon Dungeon which is north of payon town. Start with level 1, than 2-3-4. Go with your rythm!
Level 26: http://irowiki.org/wiki/Eden_Group
  • Again, just follow the steps explained on the website.
Level 26-40: If you need potions, do any eden-quests you like as they all give some. If not, than perhaps stay at payon dungeon or try orc dungeon (access from Geffen warp if VIP; if not, I think it's better to stay at payon dungeon since you don't have to walk everytime).

On a side note, for the SS/SW build, one really easy place to level (if you have the FWings or Creamy card to get there at least somewhat quickly) after you have 5+ SW is Coal Mines 3; as long as you FWing away from the Cramps, OHKO SS against Skel Workers is easy to achieve. SW also makes defeating Mysts simple since they have pretty low aspd.

Cramps also aren't as frequent an interruption as Familiars are. x.x

Wizard-level 71: Go wherever you want (eden quests if you want too), except places where mobs are of water-type. Just use Storm Gust level 1 to freeze enemies and Jupitel Thunder to kill them. Complement with Safety Wall if necessary. Kill the annoying easy mob with Soul Strike.
  • All monsters you hunt down should be within this range:
- Minimum: your level -5
- Maximum: your level +15
- The best: your level +10

Knowing that and assuming you're a wizard by level 60, here is a list of monsters between level 70 and 81:

I would include killing porcellios. Safety wall would be a great help. The way to go killing those bugs is to mob (a bunch of them) by dropping items on the floor, casting SW then start casting Meteor Storm (lvl 10). While the MS cast is loading, drop another item on the floor so that the bugs will stay inside the AOE.

For both options, don't forget to do the quest for Energy Coat, as it is a really useful skill: http://irowiki.org/w...ergy_Coat_Quest

Also, from level 86 to 99, see section V.

If you don't want to follow all of this, here's a tool which might help you anyway: http://healplz.com/exp/index.php

IV. Recommended Equipment
<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>

Ok this section can vary a lot, but this is what I'm personally aiming as a High Wizard / Warlock (no MvP Card involved):

Weapon: +7 Survivor's rod (dex) + Fabre Card
Shield: +7 Orlean's sever + Flame Skull Card
Accessory 1: Orlean's Glove + Creamy Card
Accessory 2: Sprint Ring
Accessory 1 on switch: Nile Rose + Phen Card
Accessory 2 on switch: Nile Rose + Vitata Card
Footgear: +4 Sprint Shoes + Gold Acidus Card
Garment: +9 Survivor's Manteau
Armor: +7 Sprint Mail + Pupa/Peco Peco Cards OR Frus Card OR Pest/Rybio/Sasquatch Cards
Head Gear up/middle: +9 Crown Of Deceit + Kathryne Keyron Card (I'd like DI + DL though :o)
Head gear down: Spare Card

Now, how about an easier equipment to get?

Weapon: Survivor's rod (dex) + Fabre Card
Shield: Guard + Thief Bug Egg card
Accessory: 3 clips + Vitata/Phen/Creamy Cards (All expensive)
  • No belts because if you want to sell them back, they all lost enormous values
Footgear: Vidar's Boot
Garment: Vali's Manteau
Armor: Odin's Blessing + Pupa/Peco Peco Cards OR Pest/Rybio/Sasquatch Cards
Head Gear up: Ulle's Cap + Isilla Card (expensive) OR Elder Willow Card if you want cheaper.
Head gear middle-down: Decorative items
  • Suggestions from other players are welcomed here!

V. Preparing for transcendent class
<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>

Again, all monsters you hunt down should be within this range:
- Minimum: your level -5
- Maximum: your level +15
- The best: your level +10You are now level 86 and can't take eden quests anymore. Then, I would suggest preparing for transcendent class and collect some money while leveling with decent exp:

Einbech dungeon level 2 (use Fire Bolt level 8/10 and MS level 10):
- Teddy bear are level 91; they drop elunium at 1% (150k), goddess of fortune's cursed brooch (400k) and honey at 10% (3,5k)
- Waste stove are level 92; they drop iron at 5% (3k), dead branch at 0,5% (22k) and elder branch (30k)
- Mineral are level 96; they drop emperium (900k) and gold (200k) at 0,03%, oridecon at 0,81% (150k) and topaz at 5% (3,75k to the NPC)
- Obsidian are level 97; they drop 1carat diamond at 5% (100k), cole (3k) and steel (5k) at 5%.

Clock Tower 3F (Use SG level 1/10 + JT level 10):
- Alarm are level 88; they drop oridecon at 1,06% (150k) and Needle of Alarm at 53,35% (1,8k)

Glast Heim Under Prison 1 (use SG level 1/10 + JT 10; be careful because zombie prisoner and injustice won't freeze since they're undead):
- Zombie Prisoner are level 89; they drop elunium at 1,13% (150k) and shackles at 0,4% (500k)
- Injustice are level 95; they drop steel at 3% (5k) and forbidden red candle at 0,03% (3M)
- Rybio are level 98; they drop oridecon at 1% (150k)

Ice Dungeon 1-2-3 (Use LoV level 10 and JT level 10):
- Muscipular (firebolt level) are level 105; they drop Mandragora Flowerpot (300k)
- Siroma are level 98; they drop glacial heart at 10% (2k), ice cubic at 5% (1k), blue herb at 0,11% (15k) and crystal blue at 0,21% (5k)
- Snowier are level 103; they drop glacial heart at 30% (2k), ice cubic at 10% (1k), blue herb at 0,51% (15k), crystal blue at 1% (5k), rough elunium at 1% (30k), white herb at 5% (1k) and icicle fist at 0,04% (120k)
- Ice Titan are level 110; they drop glacial heart at 50% (2k), ice cubic at 30% (1k), elunium at 0,31% (150k), frozen rose at 1% (30k), mystic frozen at 1% (30k), oridecon at 0,11% (150k) and Ice piece (30k)

Magma Dungeon 1 (Use SG level 1/10; will be hard without SW though):
- Kaho are level 98; they drop rough elunium at 10% (30k)
- Explosion are level 100; they drop rough oridecon at 8% (25k) and mastela fruit at 4% (4,5k)
- Blazer are level 101; they drop white herb at 30% (1k)
- Lava Golem are level 103; they drop white herb at 25% (1k) and magma fist at 0,21% (120k)

Robot Factory 1 / Kiel dungeon 1 (SG level 1 + JT level 10):
- Aliza are level 112; they drop orleans's server at 0,06% (5M), Rosary (1) (500k) and Morpheus's Shawl (2M) at 0,11% and royal cooking kit at 0,51% (50k)

Notes:
- Prices shown are from 13/05/2011
- All the prices described are when sold with a merchant class.
- All cards values were not included.
- All drops were not described; only money-wise one.
- Use of Fire Wall & Quagmire / Safety Wall is "essential" everywhere.

Also, I've never hunt magmaring because I never hunt mobs which don't drop items. I guess it would help for the fastest way to level though...

In that way, I wouldn't recommend having either Fire Bolt or Cold Bolt level 10 as a High Wizard / Warlock; Siroma or Imp card is then a waste of money IMO. Unless of course you want to spend real money on neuralizer for a skill reset.

If you don't want to follow all of this, here's a tool which might help you anyway: http://healplz.com/exp/index.php

VI. Tips
<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>=<>

Here are some tips about stuff B) :

1. While leveling, make sure you pick up the loot to have some money. It may take a little longer to level that way, but you'll need it later.
2. Make a merchant with these skills: http://irowiki.org/~...tml?10JbqxGA7cL
  • It's going to help you a lot! :)
3. Useful links:

Also, for the Fire wall build, one thing you can do with vFW is lure small mobs of undead (or large mobs of anything else) through all three cells of FW for a pretty quick mob kills. Large mobs will take some time, but, for slow, mobbable monsters like Alarms, you can group them, vFW, move two cells over, vFW again, lather, rinse, repeat. Kind of depends on your luck with lag, though. >.> As a wizard, Quag will allow for easier large mob control.

You can also press ctrl+~ in game

4. Pack your eden group quests for higher efficiency in leveling:

From the lvl 11-25 branch
- Muka + Peco Peco: Same map both mobs, the fastest way to level, bring Firebolt for Muka and Cold Bolt for Peco Peco (lvl 4 would do it).
- Thief Bug Egg + Familiar + Spore (+ Possibly Poisong Spore in lvl 3): Culvert sweeping like a boss.

From the lvl 41-55 branch
- Kukre + Vadons + Marse + Cornutus: Byalan dungeon mayhem. Go to Izlude, top right corner, take the boat. Lightning bolt 4 would do the trick, you can one hit everything once you get enough MATK. You can always firewall them away.
- Orc Warriors + Orc Babies + Orc Skeletons + Zenorcs: Orc fest. You need FBolt and Firewall, vertical Firewall for Orc Skeletons would help as they penetrate it very easily (horizontal won't kill them right away). You can also sweep Orc dungeon 1 (Orc Zombies), get to lvl 2, Zenorcs + Skeletons and then out for the Warriors and Babies. Potions needed.

To finish, I hope you'll find this guide useful to level your wizard. If you ever notice mistakes that I made in this guide, please pm me or write it in the topic. Also, I am really opened for any suggestions to edit the guide and make it better.

That's it! Thanks for reading and I hope it helps! ^_^

Major edit to the guide!

Apparently the forum doesn't support a lot of Word characters :/

I'll fix that now I guess...

This is what I'm talking about! job well done.. this is a really good guide. but a few fixes

You are now level 85 and can't take eden quests anymore. Then, I would suggest preparing for transcendent class and collect some money while leveling with decent exp:

You actually stop at level 86 I got to level 85 and it shows I can still do it because I'm within range of 71-85 so 86 is the stopping point so fix that.

also some people suggested a 2 handed staff for wizard/high wiz, I'm going to be buying a +6 staff of destruction for high wiz when I change, they said shields aren't all that useful.

Also you can use a soul staff + spiritual ring which is really good too.

by the way why the sprint set? what's that do for wizards?

I know that you don't personally like to train on things that give you no items for zeny but some people don't mind that if training is fast so you could also add Stapo's at level 86 for right after when you can't do the eden quests anymore they are level 95 and are weakness to fire.

Thanks for the tips! ^^

As for shield not being useful, it depends. On my personal build, I want to achieve a maximum cast reduction without putting any or only barely points into dex.
Sprint set gives 13% variable cast reduction and 10% reduce in cast delay. Not only that, but both the shoes and the mail are slotted and give good other specs.

In total you get: Max HP +7%, Max SP +7%, HP regen +5%, vit +1, SP regen 5%, agi+1, 30 def and the above.

As for the shield being useless, it depends... If you combine orlean's glove and shield you get another 10% cast reduction. If you actually obtain +9 crown of deceit, that's another 20%.

Also, when you combine survivor's rod with a high refined survivor's manteau, than you get good stuff <_<
=> http://db.irowiki.or...item-info/2509/

Now, all these cost A LOT of money lol. So, for a cheaper build, I guess a two-handed staff could also do. +6 staff of destruction is 18 mils though; quite expensive :/

AH nice bonus for the sprint set I would like to get that XD..I guess that would be something to look forward to trying to get.

You missed this part it needs to be 86 right?

Also, from level 85 to 99, see section V.

and why don't you add under level 26-40 that people also have the option to kill ant eggs, I did that and it was really really good I mean at least to job 40 using fire ball on the ant eggs.

hey, thx for your guide. as a suggestion to lvl up really fast between lvl 71-86, I would include killing porcellios. Safety wall would be a great help. The way to go killing those bugs is to mob (a bunch of them) by dropping items on the floor, casting SW then start casting Meteor Storm (lvl 10). While the MS cast is loading, drop another item on the floor so that the bugs will stay inside the AOE.

Nice Unglued that's pretty much what I did at stapo's since they are looters I didn't use safety wall though but the exp was really nice cast meteor storm and just drop a few items so they don't go any where lol.

Ive been using this guide for 2 days. Got all my gear and got to 56/50 in 2 days. I must say though, following this skill build, Im having a hell of a time trying to pass the wizard test. Last room has 3 agro mobs and I dont have anything fast/powerful enough to kill them before the interrupt/kill me. I don't have much money for pots either.

Thanks for the offer, I ended up getting through it though. I just had to use frost diver and keep moving without running into the goblin. Took a few times, but after frost diver landed freeze it was simple enough after burning down the agros.

Furthermore, I have no idea how people solo with this stat build. I can't even solo mobs my own level, let alone the recommended +10.

Im rerolling something that can get hit more than twice.

The ridiculous length of cast times pretty much pigeonholes me into only fighting mobs that are earth type so firewall will keep them away from me. Even in that case, the longest I can solo without having a *cough* accident *cough* (eg. random agro mob spawn, invisible mob) is about 20% xp. Are mages/wizards supposed to be dying CONSTANTLY or are there just some tricks I havent figured out yet?

Found a pretty decent spot, argiopes are slow enough to manage, even though the occasional driller will sneak up on you. The only problem I have now are with the atrocious game mechanics that essentially will not allow you to run away if there are more than 3 mobs on the screen chasing you. GG Lag.

Im 73 now. Went to clock tower. Clocks and punks are pretty easy and good xp, but they dont spawn too much. Good call in the guide about watching out for ridewords. Those suckers are fast and hit me pretty hard. Ive lost a lot of xp to them -_-

Sorry for the late reply...!

I'm sorry if you had to struggle in the wizard test. Note that I haven't played with firewall since about 2 years now and that was pre-renewal. I gathered a lot of data and read a lot about renewal change though and made a build which would make the most sense to me. Also, if you had a potions issue, I don't know if you did the eden quests that gave potions (written in the guide)? You should normally have some left at the wizard guide. Anyway, you're past that now, so whatever :thumb:

Furthermore, I have no idea how people solo with this stat build. I can't even solo mobs my own level, let alone the recommended +10.

Im rerolling something that can get hit more than twice.

I'm not sure what you mean by something which can hit more than twice... Do you mean adding more dex? You can (see in the stats part of the guide) the difference in dex on cast-time is really low when adding points, but it's your choice in the end ^^

I guess the answer would be yes lol when you first play as a mage. The only reason for that is because firewall is hard to master, but you'll get the hang of it soon (I hope -_-)!

There's also a thing I didn't want to talk about in the guide called vertical firewall. Basically, you put a firewall for the mob to run across all the walls before coming to you. It's hard to explain, so you can practice here before trying and getting killed lol: http://vfw.gn0.me/

Use flywing to run away! And you are right, I should make a notice about slow mobs being better for leveling as mage/wizard.

Oh don't mind me lol, I was just Q_Q'ing a little. The part about the wiz test was that they are all fire element in the last room, so firewall doesnt work ... and without a super fast cast like soul, it was pretty difficult to run around and get casts off without getting squished.

I have a somewhat related question, now that im 70+ Im curious to know if partying is actually a benefit to a wizard? I tried partying with a friend who is a knight, but without a healer we still had a lot of downtime and the xp wasnt great.

At level around 70, I would say no for now, but then again I could be wrong.

Partying can be efficient... e.g.: Level 92+: magma dungeon 2

There are more too! Just always check this: http://rode-r.doddle...om/viewpage/d/3

Level 77 now. I'm just repeating the eden quests for clock tower, as I have absolutely no other way of solo play. Even in clock tower, I die constantly ... nearly every time a rideword finds me. Luckily the quest xp makes up for the dying every 15 minutes.

Mage class is not the easiest class if you have no gears (like phen) or pots... If there's a rideword on you, don't you have time to SG 1?

I don't remember there being an exp penalty for hunting monsters of levels significantly higher than the player's level... Was that implemented with Renewal? *walks level 26 vFWing mage out of clock tower* x.x

<edit>...keeping in mind that the last time I played iRO was in beta...

hahaha, not even close. They attack fast and never miss, SG 1 is a 6 second cast time. I cant even get off a firewall most of the time.
