Depends on how much you've drawed during that year. If you take one year of schooling you can get that good if you learn easy
if it's just a hobby and you do it once a week, maybe not as good.
The more you draw "active" the more you learn, so bringing a sketch block everywhere you go can do the trick...

not necessarily, like dani said it depends on how often you draw. it's not always pure skill either, some people are better with attention to detail etc. and if you're impatient you probably shouldn't be drawing.

It's not copying, it's observing. The best practice is to draw what you see, not what you think you see. Say you want to draw a person's face, think I need to draw eyes, a nose and a mouth. Try drawing the shapes these feature make rather than the eye/nose/mouth specifically. It's alot better to start by drawing from something in person rather than an image too, as you get better you will be able without reference but it is always useful no matter how experienced you are.

I think the best way to learning is really individual , because I learn by speed drawing. If you draw really fast your brain is constantly seeking proportions fast and quite often those sketches turn out better then normal, I might not be super good even if I draw freehand but there's different methods really. My little sister is 11 , learning by YouTube using shapes etc... There's many ways ;3
