Add some transparency, maybe make the border a smooth box rather than a straight box, much like a button :)

Fully utilize the size restrictions you can have of 600w x 150h maybe? :)

Looks alright though, what you using CS5?

Keep it simple (:

Save it as PNG, for the transparency.
JPG won't make it transparent.

jpeg / tiff can be made transparent ( even a bmp can ) with the right alpha channel properties, if your using cs5, click layers add new layer ( cant remember most of it ) I'd suggest using GIMP for adding the alpha channel ( much easier imo and you can choose to color to alpha, which will remove the selected color/hex value and make it transparent ).

For the rounded edges, in cs5, go to shapes, then select the rounded box tool, then add a gradient in the layers blending properties ( or overlay which ever gives more flexibility ) you can also download new / diff gradients from googleing "cs5 gradients", or you could even go as far as using an image from your own pc as an overlay.

But it takes longer time to make an alpha layer then to save in PNG :>

How is ( using GIMP ) clicking > layers > add alpha channel > color to alpha, harder than saving in a diff format o.O?

Anyways, for now we're both giving Slinger "sound" advice, lets try not to confuse him lol. <(^.^)>

@Slinger have you done one yet?

Bare in mind the one rule: Less is More.

Try not to keep things cluttered up.
If you send me just that picture of your character in your picture (hopefully cut out), I can make one to give you an idea what you could do.

I like your first signature; the one you have right now really has bevel and emboss in all the wrong places. So look out for that.
