This guide is for people experiencing what is stated about such as:
*Opening as a very tiny window
*Not starting up at all(due to setup)
*Setup not working or do not change resolution for classic

Ok, so after hours of reading and following what people are talking about in forums, still didn't get a single fix. So tried something else which was not stated in the forums.

Follow these given steps and hope that this fixes the error that anyone of you are experiencing.
1. Delete the game entirely. Don't leave a single file behind.
2. Assuming that you have a back-up of the Ragnarok installer, install the game. *DON'T PATCH JUST YET*
3. Since the old setup works fine for classic and since it will be deleted and changed into the ghostring setup, copy the file and put it somewhere safe.
Again, just copy the old setup and put it somewhere*Not in the RO folder ofc*
4. Patch Ragnarok normally.
5. After patching, notice that the setup icon has changed into the ghostring setup*which I think works only for the renewal client for some people, like me*, cut that thing up and put it somewhere safe too. P.S. Don't try to put it on the same place where you kept the old setup file or it will overwrite and you'll lose the old setup.
6. Then just paste the old setup icon on your Ragnarok directory. Run setup as admin and set the baby up to your desired resolution and what not.
7. Run Classic as admin and enjoy.

NOTES:
1. The old setup file only works for classic, and the ghostring one only works for renewal. So if you're planning to play on the renewal servers, just simply switch the old setup with the ghostring one. Make sure to keep backups of both. Since you'll be switching them depending on servers.

GHOSTRING/NEW SETUP FOR RENEWAL

2. This is not a permanent fix and hope that a fix would be on the way so as to remove the hassle from switching setups all the time.

Update
After clicking ok for the setup and an error pops up, ignore that and close it. Just start the client normally there after.

I have the same exact problem...but its on renewal. No problems on classic at all. What should I do? I've done this already.

Are you using the ghostring setup for renewal? Also, you need to open both setup and renewal as admin.

thats exactly what it says when the SEtup stops working. Right exactly as soon as im done click ok to save the settings.

Usually I get this kind of error but ro still runs fine and uses the setup that I've just set. Try launching renewal after setting up. Ignore error, and tell me what happens

Yup. Avast's realtime protection gets a false positive from the RO clients.

Add an exception for the RO clients.

I'm playing the renewal and two days ago, I could still play just fine. But just now, after getting the new datas , it opens in a real tiny window T.T. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Also, setup (the ghosting one, yes) doesn't work.

Rag.exe works fine Classic wont run. It took me forever to get Rag.exe running so i am VERY hesitant to delete any files. Is there any other way to get Classic working?

I just installed the game and when it first comes up with the setup box I hit ok and it just keeps reappearing. I tried all the settings and no matter what I do it won't go away. Even more annoyingly even hitting cancel won't make it go away so I can't even just close it. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling once already.

I just can't make it work guys, the new Full-Patch comes with 2 set-up files:
"Setup.exe" (ghostring) and "Setup_Classic.exe"

The first above seems to be for renewall, as you say, and it works just fine with any resolution. But the second, also as you said, does not provide any screen resolution to choose. It does only open an empty drop down menu.

I removed everything and installed once again following what you said above, but even without patching it, it already comes with those 2 setups, and the classic one is still empty.

Any ideas?

I had this exact problem, found this thread, and followed directions and it didn't work. Then I discovered in the same folder a file called:

 

Setup_Classic

 

And I clicked on it. It brought up the old classic setup wizard, I adjusted my screen resolution to match my moniter and ran the client. It worked PERFECTLY!  So the issue has been resolved in a sense. If anyone else is having trouble there is no need to follow the directions up top anymore, just run the application Setup_Classic and adjust the resolution to your monitor and tastes and you should have no problem at all.

For what it's worth: like Tekrelious, I didn't need to go through the whole step of deleting and reinstalling.
I opened the folder and ran Setup_Classic.exe and reset the display size, and then was able to run classic without difficulty.

I was having these issues running windows 8. What I had to do to run RO was open the RO folder and right click classicsetup and run troubleshoot compatibility, saved the settings and it works fine. I still can't run in full screen but I'm not gonna complain! I had to do a lot of digging to find this fix I hope it helps!

running the troubleshoot gave me choice's for resolution in classic setup! 

 

in addition afterwards patching ragnorok then using patchup, afterwards making sure classic patched then patching sakray to be sure i had all files.

 

when getting the client error 

 

Cannot init d3d OR grf file has problem

 

running the troubleshoot compatibility on the classic ro client fix's it aswell and the error dissapears!! once you save those settings simply running classic client as admin works on its own afterwards!

 

only takes one compatibility shot to fix client!!!
