So, I've been away from RO for almost a year. Patched up, went to log in, and was met with the following sights:

Posted Image
"Odd, the ESRB got awfully blurry."

Posted Image
"So did... everything else."

Posted Image
"Seriously?! Everything that isn't a character is hideous! D:"

This is the same computer I used to play on, and I never uninstalled until this happened. I've done the usual reinstall of RO when things go wonky, and I'm getting the same issue. Anyone have any ideas? These are slightly resized by photobucket, but they're an accurate representation of what I'm seeing when I try to play.

What screen resolution do you have the game set to?

It's at 1440x900, native resolution for my monitor.

Edited because I sometimes can't spell for crap.

Could be your graphics card getting wonky. What kind of graphics card do you have?

ATI Radeon 3200 HD. It's a mobile video card, but it works just fine for any number of other games, including WoW, League of Legends, Beat Hazard... the list goes on. RO is the only game that gives me this issue.

Could probably be some sort of interference. Something you've added to your computer between the last time you played RO and now could have something to do with this. Or maybe the patcher updated the files funny. I've never experienced this so I don't know what solutions to suggest. Just wait, I'm sure there's someone in these forums who could be of better help than me. :o

Well, I appreciate the effort! Guess I'll wait and see. Hopefully someone has an idea, it'd be no fun at all if this was the only way I could play RO.

The sprites seem to be doing just fine! Since that's what everyone plays the game for anyway, I don't see the issue. :o

Haha, yeah, it's fine until I have to read chat for whatever reason. Then it's terrible.

Umm...this is a simple problem with a simple solution.

You lowered the texture quality. Close RO, go to setup.exe, set the texture detail to max, log in and everything is normal again.

Not so simple, I'm afraid. Texture and sprite quality are both set all the way to the right. Even if they weren't, I don't think setting texture quality to low would affect the ESRB warning and the login screen, nor should they mess up all the text. Appreciate the attempt, though. I probably should have mentioned that I've everything set as high as it can go, and that the settings have not been changed- though they have been checked- since about a year ago when everything was working fine.

got the newest catalyst? i had this issue but it was with an out of date, unsupported card. you can press alt+d in game to check if your settings are getting through.

what happens when you run it on the lowest res? like 640x480?

It does look to me like texture quality is set way down.

Was this with an old install of RO, or a fresh install?

Are you running windows vista/7, or XP? If win7/vista, are you running the setup program as admin? You need to have it run with the same adminness as the game client.

Also, btw, newest catalyst has been causing problems for some users.

You lowered the texture quality. Close RO, go to setup.exe, set the texture detail to max, log in and everything is normal again.

You can also change texture and sprite resolution without closing the client by using Alt + D. :P

But yeah, it does look like an issue with the video card settings, since lowering the texture details will not make text unreadable. =\

Does this happen with full screen video or other apps? Do you have a secondary video card you could pop in and try it with? I played around with textures and nothing reproduced the blurred image of the Rated T for Teen picture. So, it's likely hardware or driver issues.
