After upgrading my videocard I've had nothing but graphic issues with this game.  Character sprites are choppy looking, effects look wrong and portions of the ground are covered in black dots, seemingly at random.  Currently using Windows 7 and a Nvidia GeForce  GTX 750 Ti videocard.

Also note though the game runs perfectly smooth with little to no lag at all.  This is the only game this happens in.  I know this might sound shallow of me but having a game that honestly looks like this because i upgraded my videocard ruins the enjoyment for me.

Examples of this are as follows.

Excuse this question, but have you tried all available graphic settings in the setup.exe?

Yes, I forgot to include that I've tried all available settings in the setup program, as well as levels of sprite and texture detail.

On to the other basic questions then - you never know.

Tried re-installing the game after re-downloading it?

What are the settings of your nvidia control panel?

Try running the client in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3. If that doesn't resolve the problem, then you'll have to modify your GPU driver's settings using Nvidia Control Panel or Nvidia Inspector. (No, I'm afraid I don't know which settings you'll need to change.)

What do you mean by the settings on the nvidia control panel?  There is a lot here.  Not sure which one you two are referring to.

You can change which driver set you are using (NVIDIA usually offers like a performance driver, standard driver, game-specific driver, etc).

I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST and the game looks fine.

So a night of trial and error later and only the black dots has been resolved.

Things I tried:

  • Validating file integrity (via Steam files were missing, reacquired them...or so it said)
  • Fresh Driver installs (rolled back a few months and updated again, clean installs both times)
  • Tried every single option on the nvidia control panel (brute forcing problems, fixed black dots by turning off clamping)
  • Reinstalled RO via Steam (found files missing when validating again)
  • Reinstalled RO via the stand alone installer directly from Warp Portal
  • Fudged with compatibility settings on the files
  • Tried every option in the RO setup (Not classic)

I've done everything I can think of, and a few things other people have thought of too.  I can't possibly figure out what is still causing these glitchy choppy looking sprites.  But I know when I do find out it will be a stupid simple solution that will leave me enraged.

Unfortunately I've found this to be a side effect of using these new 750 Ti cards. I took this comparison shot not too long ago on 2 different PCs just in case it wasn't an isolated issue. I have yet to find a solution as well.

Hey hope this thread is not dead. Anyone else who sees black dots, I managed to get it fixed.

Just change Graphic Setting from your setup.exe in the installation folder to direct3D:

@Aknel You're not the only one with GTX970 ;)

I'm also using GTX 970 and changing it to Direct3D does nothing for me so what else did you change?

I have the same problem and none of Graphics Settings options worked for me. Win10 and GTX970. Not sure what to try next.

ro setup is fine. the gpu is the problem. but just in case you still havent figure out a solution, heres what i did. im not sure but i think this is the only solution for now.

1. log in your RO. stay log in.

2. hit ctrl+alt+del. (for some reason it solved the dots and edgy problems)

3. close task manager.

4. go back to your RO. spots and edgy should be gone. done.

im using gtx 970 btw.
