So I think someone needs to sticky a guide for Windows 8 user because judging from all the post I've gone through, there are only a couple of users who are sucessfully playing RO on this OS.

After finally downloading a non-corrupted file from the official site, I went on ahead and installed the game. Problem is, I'm not able to play due to a small screen that keeps popping up (As well, there is no option for resolution in the setup) I've checked this forums, searched for answers and still cannot play. My graphics card is updated, and I believe I am running DirectX 11 (Assuming all new laptops are equipped with DirectX 11, but mine for sure is.)

It would be helpful if there was some guide to help out the Windows 8 user, I recently bought a laptop because I've been without one for a while, and unfortunately all new laptops are equipped with Windows 8, so this was out of my hands.

This is not win8 related.

Some users get the "tiny screen" issue. Run classic setup as admin and choose correct resolution. Do the same with the normal setup. And it should work at that point.

No resolution options? That's not good.

Try running in WinXP compatibility mode (for both client and setup). Some have said that fixes things.

My Windows 8 doesn't have WinXP mode. I'm not running Windows 8 Pro.

Compatibility options should be available on all versions of windows 8. I'm not talking about the full-fledged fake-win-xp mode, I'm talking about the compatibility tab of properties.

I don't have detailed instructions, since I don't have access to win8 machine for testing right now, but even consumer versions have compatibility options.

You need to Right Click Setup.exe and choose Run as Admin, even if your user is the admin.

I did that, chose the resolution and got RO working on windows 8 :D

If you can't get the resolutions to appear (mine never did) you can go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Gravity\Ragnarok Online\savedata and open OptionInfo.lua in a text editor.

Just change these two lines to whatever you want as a resolution:

OptionInfoList["WIDTH"]
OptionInfoList["HEIGHT"]

For example I wanted a window that didn't take the whole screen so I use:

OptionInfoList["WIDTH"] = 1600
OptionInfoList["HEIGHT"] = 900

If you want to change Window/Fullscreen here just edit:

OptionInfoList["ISFULLSCREENMODE"]

to 0 for window and 1 for fullscreen.

Edit: Forgot to mention the lines appear twice in the file. I changed both, but I assume one works for Renewal and one works for Classic.

The problem whereby the list of available video resolutions in the configurator is blank can be resolved by running the configurator in compatibility mode with the recommended settings. It's not necessary to manually modify the registry or the client's configuration files.

This didn't work for me on my new asus Zenbook infinity (Windows 8.0 Intel iris 5100 graphics). Kept getting blank resolution menu - I had to hand edit the config.
