Exit all RO clients
Move RO to location OUTSIDE of program files (if on Windows Vista or later - otherwise this step may be skipped - RO generally has fewer problems located outside program files, because the developers don't know how to play well with windows UAC, even though UAC has been around since vista).
Use a map database to find what number the song you want to replace is.
Open the BGM folder in your RO folder. Find the appropriately numbered file. Move it to a backup location. Now copy the song you want to replace it with to that folder, and rename it to what the file you're replacing was named (ex 02.mp3 or 132.mp3).

Does that actually work? Once I tried to replace the WoE bgm with a vocal version that sounded kinda nice by doing the same thing...but then I had no bgm in any of the castle areas. I did have the folder in Program Files though. Will it really work if I move it to something like My Documents?

Lol, kids, this game's musics are such memorable to each of player, since its beta until now. I can still remember my beta days whenever I listened to Pront theme, n truth be told, Im a returned player just 6 months ago. That is amazing memories since Im myself are having short and long term memory syndrome (I sometime cant even remember what I did last 5mins).

This thread should never existed. Damn, I felt insulted with any attempts to change the BGM by any means.
