Since I won't be fighting, should I just leave mammonite alone? Also, should I max vending, or leave it at Lv 5?

If you're actually going pure forger (I don't recommend it), you'll get no use out of Mammonite if you're on Classic. If you're on Renewal, you _could_ use it to level slowly and expensively, by using high atk weapons and mammoing everything - so get it if you're planning to do that, and don't get it if you're planning to level some other way (presumably mercenaries).
I would always max vending, it's way classier to vend your weapons with the thing that made them.
